“No...” Ace squints across the room at him.

“Not the cop shit, no thanks.” she makes obnoxious retching noises. “Even a wife beater would be preferable.”

“He will, to repay me for the inconvenience of being arrested.”

“Deadbeat cop who needs to pick on poor magicians for their wage.”

“He’s definitely an enemy, no disillusions there.” Ace gave a bemused snort.

“I’d like it if he wasn’t such a prick.” She gave an innocent smile in his direction. “He didn’t need to chase me several blocks and cuff me for a conversation, jeez.”

“I wouldn’t...” she makes a sour face, but realizes it’s a ‘you have to’ hypothetical situation.  She rolls her eyes. “I don’t know, maybe on the cheek or his chin or something.”

“Look, I’m working off more than one eyewitness here, all consistent, all putting you in the same place, at the same time”. Justino’s tone was firm, even if Rob had more experience under his belt, and had been there longer, part of him always knew he could be responsible for something like this.

He dropped his finger down on to the wood table separating them, a dull thud snapping Rob out of his thoughts. “Think about what would happen to you if Captain winters heard about this?” He stared intensely at his co-worker and walked around the table, taking a seat on the corner of it. “Look, don’t worry about it for right now, I’m going to cover for you, but if this happens again… if you take the last of the coffee and don’t fill up the pot, there’s nothing I can do for you”.

“I swear it wasn’t me!” He hissed, folding his arms over his chest with the most sour look he could muster. This was ridiculous. He could not BELIEVE he’d be accused of something like... Like this! Sure, he’d do something like this-- but not specifically this!”

“I wasn’t even in the break room when that happened. I was.... Somewhere else, okay!?” He snapped, turning this into a competition to see who could bang on the table loudest. “Besides-- I don’t even LIKE coffee. What do you think I’d do this out of some sort of childish spite??”

He paused for a moment a look of sudden realization on his face. “Oh I get it... This is because my family’s Scandinavian isn’t it and we all know how much Scandinavians LOVE coffee!!”
