John’s extensive knowledge of pressure points as a means of interrogation (which is what he implements during Atonement) came from being in a ‘relationship’ of sorts with a member of the Atlanta crime family back in his early twenties. The ‘relationship’ greatly benefitted both parties as far as information went and John learned a lot about how pressure points worked. Naturally this was in bed with them as most of their encounters were and John’s masochism was very much in play.
