you’ll love alex avila. he’s not flashy or anything, he’s solid and just goes out and does his job without complaint. he’s best used in a straight platoon with a right handed platoon partner (which i’m guessing contreras is?) alex isn’t going to be taking playing time from contreras though. he’ll be a more than capable backup. he’s kind of funny in a dry way, he’s great at handling pitchers, and is a good game-caller. your pitchers will love throwing to him, unless they’re particularly fussy about who catches them.

jwil has dynamite stuff but can be a little inconsistent. he throws pretty hard but for some reason he’s tougher on righties than lefties (probably because everything he throws is hard). he’s got an upper 90s fastball, low 90s cutter, and sometimes he tinkers with a slider and a curveball (he might have been mixing in a changeup in recent outings but i don’t really remember). his primary breaking ball is the slider though. jwil can get wild at times and that can lead to some erratic outings, and he also sometimes gives up bombs but overall he’s pretty good. he’s not andrew miller or aroldis chapman, but he’s a good set-up man and was a capable fill-in closer here in detroit. if wade davis leaves as a free agent after the season jwil can close.
