C’mon, Danno, we’re burning daylight.

( hands fisted on his hips, he can’t help the broad, pleased smile that’s been plastered on his face since he announced their impending camping trip. Grace is with Rachel for the weekend, the boys are off doing their own thing, and Five-0 is case free -- it’s the perfect opportunity for them to get away for a little while, and to be honest, Steve’s skin has been itching with the need to get Danny alone for a while now.

he’s got a satellite phone for the trip, just in case anybody needs to get in touch with them for emergencies -- anything to do with the kids or a case that can’t wait -- but they also all know it’s emergency only.

judging by the look on Chin and Kono’s face, they’re well aware of what’s going down, even though he and Danny still haven’t told them that there is a them, but he’ll deal with that later.

right now, his primary concern is getting on the road before the entire day is wasted. he has plans for them. awesome plans.

Does Steve think he will ever "retire" or work a job that does not include field work?

If you asked Steve, the first thing he’d tell you is that SEALs don’t retire. They quiet down a little, but they never lose their edge, and they never lose their taste for field work.

That being said, he will eventually move toward something that doesn’t involve quite so many explosions and life-threatening incidents on a daily basis, though it’ll be a long time coming, and probably under duress. Steve has some issues wrapped up in his masculinity/the work he does/the notion of service and obligation, and those also tie neatly into the issues still surrounding his father and now his mother, so it will be rough going getting him to settle down. He’ll resist it strongly at first, and depending on who it’s coming from, he’ll probably resent the suggestion that he needs to (eventually) start slowing down.

Unsurprisingly, he would take it much better coming from Grace than he would Danny, for instance, and that’ll probably be the route to go down the line when it’s time for him to retire from actively chasing down bad guys to training other people to do it Steve McGarrett style. It’ll probably take some convincing, but when it comes to his family, there’s just about nothing Steve wouldn’t do, and once it gets to the point where someone has to lay it out for him in bald terms – you slow down and find something meaningful to do in a related field, or you die on the job and leave your family without you – he’ll realize he can’t keep putting his family through that and have to come to terms with the fact that he’s getting older and needs to shift the direction of his life to accommodate that.

He just won’t be happy about it, and he’ll probably try to drag Danny into retirement with him. It’s years off, and he hasn’t really given any thought to it yet, so the short answer is: no, he doesn’t think he will, and especially before Danny he sort of vaguely assumed he’d go down in a ball of fire on some op, but now? With Danny and Grace and the family they’re building? Things have changed.

And when he realizes that, he’ll panic a little, so stay tuned.

my opinion on;

character in general: DANIEL WILLIAMS. my son. my brother. the father i wish i had. i have loved danny from day one and tbh codi got me into h50 by saying “but ellen there’s a hot dad” and i was just DAMN IT because i am always weak for hot dads. (also she showed me a clip of carguments and i fell in love with this little jersey bastard.) i love everything about danny, all his virtues, all his flaws, his self-sabotage, his sALTY ASS PERSONALITY HE IS ME I AM HIM god he’s just. the greatest. if i knew him i’d make bigger heart eyes at him than steve does.

how they play them: PERFECTION. i could literally not ask for someone to write danny with more care, love, and respect for his character than krio, and i thank my lucky stars we found each other’s h50 blogs when we did because THE PERFECT DANNY TO MY STEVE, RIGHT HERE. makes me… (wipes away a tear) want to be a better steve. (does that sound like vows? it sounds kinda like vows.) honestly, i hear danny’s voice in the dialogue krio writes, and it gives me such a rich playground to bounce steve off. i’m so so so happy with your danny, krio.

the mun: krio is amazing ok. we’ve become pretty close since we started rping steve and danny especially – though i adored krio from a distance, p shyly, while we were foggy/pietroing it up – but idk we’ve just really clicked as friends since we fell into mcdanno trashcan hell and a day doesn’t feel complete if i don’t check in, honestly. krio’s an ace person and a great friend and a supremely talented writer and i just. LOW KEY HEART EYES ALL THE TIME. finger guns.

overall opinion: lies on the floor and thinks about life. krio is amazing, danny is amazing, everything is amazing.
