The Time I Cried at a Florence + the Machine show: by K-Bust
Words and photo by K-Bust, musician.
In my quest to discover new music online, I came across one of Florence + The Machine's live videos. I was hooked within the first second; she had a very strong voice and stage presence that blew my mind from the first note she sang. Where was I all this time? I felt I had missed so much, that it was time to catch up with all of her videos.
Today we’re absolutely thrilled to be premiering the music video for “Over” by Montreal-based electro-pop/ urban artist K-Bust. With a background in classical piano, she also takes influence from the likes of David Bowie and Depeche Mode for a sound that can be compared to everyone from Tove Lo to Madonna to Christina Aguilera.
The video for “Over” sees K-Bust caught in a forest, trying to escape the grip of what’s holding her back. Directed by visual artist and musician Mariano Franco, the visual has a gothic and almost supernatural feel to it- yet it was shot entirely in Montreal (which it makes it all the more haunting). K-Bust’s struggles in the forest follow the story of the lyrics, which see her facing her fears of not being loved and fighting to break free, even when it hurts. It’s a compelling clip and you can watch it for yourself above.
Regarding the video, K-Bust tells us:
“When making the music video for ‘Over,’ I knew I wanted to bring to life the same message from the lyrics, and create a metaphor about breaking free from someone’s grip. The story unfolds inside an enchanted forest, where anything can happen, and mythical creatures come to life; like a birdman, chasing me down to put me back into his prison. To cage me and keep me from being free.
Since I’m a big fan of Tim Burton’s work, we wanted to give the video a surreal touch inspired by his latest movie ‘Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.’”
"Over” comes to us as the first music video from K-Bust’s forthcoming album Fearless (produced by Juno-nominated producer Albert Chambers) which will be released on March 9, 2018. More singles and videos will be released in the coming months, so be sure to keep up with K-Bust on Facebook, Twitter , Instagram, and her website.
K-Bust’s Fearless Globe Trotting
Coming from a small town and calling Southern California home for three decades, people like K-Bust make me all starry eyed. She’s lived in various prominent spots on the map, can speak a myriad of languages, and on top of all of that, she’s a self-taught musician with an electronic sound that pops. Listeners will be able to hear the culmination of her worldly views and electronic pop when her album drops early next year in March. Between then and now though, you can check out what she had to say about her many tongues, homes, hew new single “Over” and more. Read the rest here...
