I got the new Keroro guidebook today \o/
It's K-File, the 2012 update to the previous guidebook, the Keroro Super Encyclopedia released in 2007. It has STICKERS oh and I guess there's a shitload of info on the characters and various happenings thus far in the manga, what with the inclusion of Tomosu, Myou, and New Keroro. While the 2007 book had furigana for all the kanji, this one has almost no furigana. A little target audience shift?
About ages... shifty as usual, but this time with more than ??? or "unknown." Mutsumi has been aged down 2 years since 2007, from 18 to 16 (haha I totally knew it `w`). The platoon got ages, ranging from "estimated at no less than" 10,500 for the childhood trio (Pururu and Zoruru would be considered the same), 6,000 for Kururu, and 3,000 for Tamama. Mois is 2,000 in Earth years, and was asleep in orbit for most of that. The kids have all aged a year since the comic started, with Fuyuki and Momoka at 13, and Natsumi and Koyuki at 14. The new kids are 11.
However, in regards to the Keronian's ages, Keron years apparently zoom by off-planet. In the 12 years the platoon has been on Earth, 300 years have passed on Keron (naturally, everyone ages only about a year, or not at all, because Comic Book Time). These numbers (12 and 300) are given in regards to the Keron army sending New Keroro to Earth. That's where I found something interesting: 300/12=25. 25 is the key number here. Take a Keronian's age, divide it by 25, take off the zero at the end.
10,500/25=420... Childhood Trio and co. are 42, as implied previously.
6,000/25=240. Kururu is in the range I thought he'd be at 24! :D
3,000/25=120... 12!? Tamama is a lot younger than I thought, but if Tororo, Taruru, or Kururu (child prodigy Major, remember?) are any indication, Keronian kids can be conscripted or scouted into military service at the first sign of any useful talent.
You can take the above as you please, whether you write or roleplay or just talk endlessly about this bunch (lookin' at you, you and YEAH YOU `w`), but always remember that regardless of whether someone is 10,000 in Earth years or 10,000 in Keron years, it doesn't affect the maturity they show. That, and maybe Keronians just like to use big numbers to look good. They've been trying to invade the Earth since it's prehistoric days, after all.
In conclusion, a little excerpt about Tororo from the Garuru Platoon section:
Recruit Tororo: Kid Hacker With No Common Sense
The Garuru Platoon's operator. A young boy who doesn't yet have any distinction between right and wrong, he was talent-scouted after hacking into the Keron military's computers. Looks down on everyone else, and lacks any shred of morality.
YEP, that sounds just like the script kiddie on a power trip we were all introduced to during the 24-Hour Planetary Anesthesia arc. This is in contrast to Kururu, who is much more experienced, actually quite sensible, and knows full well the consequences of his actions (barring unexpected results), but would have likely turned out like this if he hadn't met Mutsumi that day.
Oh, as for Garuru Platoon's ages... well, we have Pururu and Zoruru, so we can just continue with saying Garuru's a little older than Giroro, Taruru's a little younger than Tamama, and Tororo's even younger than that (9? 10? That'd make him about Chibi-Kero age).
If anyone happens across this entry and wants to know more about K-File, wouldja care to tell me?
