Kadoc trying to keep his feeling buried deep down. Refusing to say them aloud. If he did those feelings become real and he can no longer deny them. He wouldn’t hold back.

Ritsuka wanting to tell Kadoc, but refrains. She doesn’t want to ruin the progress they’ve made. She knows there’s something there but it’s best to take it slow. Her time in Chaelda has been hectic, fast paced. This is something slow, enjoyable and hopefully everlasting.

Doesn’t stop them from reaching out to each other. The light touches, the reassurances, the gap slowly closing. The entire staff on the edge of their seats, waiting for them to just confess.

kadoguda fic for @dailyarturiartfgo !! their kadoguda stuff got stuck in my brain for MONTHS so finally managed to finish this!! been wanting to write some time about kdgd too and started on a smut fic initially but i got distracted with this one instead lmao.

i also finally finished this one as one HAMSTER OF DEATH AND DESTRUCTION and kdc zmlps came home today huehehhe

Very seriously: Kadoc/Gudao soulmates AU where the nature of the connection is up to each person and is not inherently romantic or even necessarily positive so kadoguda would really have preferred to be fated enemies because it would have been simpler. But alas. The author would like them to kiss.

I don't feel like digging out my notes right now, the really important parts are:

1) Gudao (henceforth Ritsuka) has a mark that doesn't fade when the incineration of humanity happens, so he knows that the person at the other end of the bond is somehow still alive. This is strange but initially comforting, and becomes much less so when the earth is bleached and most of Chaldea slaughtered because if it's not any of the Chaldea survivors, then there is a very limited number of people it could be. (Kadoc has a matching mark that he hides because mage society can get weird about soulmates and there are people who would happily mess with other people's bonds for science or for woe or whatever)

2) the other part of the soulmates thing is that as the connection develops, they start sharing memories through dreams and visions, and the Really Bad First Contact between Kadoc and Ritsuka counts enough for them to start picking things up here and there.

3) mutual involuntary security liability!!! great!! They hate it. Kadoc is resentful because he aggressively does not want to feel any kind of way about getting to see a greatest hits reel of Ritsuka struggling thru his adventures (like the time Shuten Douji rearranges Ritsuka's guts in Shimousa).

4) Unfortunately for Kadoc he also gets a couple of uhhhh. intimate memories that he would have preferred not to witness (doomed Patxi/Ritsuka). The memories are from Ritsuka's perspective and he! Doesn't need to know exactly how his fated rival would feel if he pinned him down and [redacted] [redacted]

5) must emphasize Kadoc hates the entire thing with his whole heart at the beginning (HIS RIVAL IS INTO GUYS???) (...HIS RIVAL IS A FURRY???) (Kadoc refuses to acknowledge that he is at all envious of Patxi because there's nothing to be envious of. He does not want anything to do with Ritsuka even if he can't help but acknowledge him) (which he resents!)

......I haven't caught up to anything past the early part of Faerie Britain so idk how to develop it from here HAHA I would like them to kiss, as two dudes with a messy bond of mutual respect who started out hating each other and have become friends against all odds.
