Valentine’s Day Special
Kai stared up at the calendar posted on the fridge. “Val–en–tine’s Day? What is that? Probably just a stupid human holiday.” Kai began to climb down the fridge, before he actually took a moment to think what that could mean for him. “My boyfriend’s a human. This is a human holiday. What if it’s important to him?!” Kai quickened his pace, he had to look this up!
Kai sat on Jasper’s night stand, watching the human sleep for a moment, before clicking the on button on his phone. He typed in the password and looked for the search engine. (*Ox notes* It’s currently like 2:00 AM for them, so Jasper’s not waking up anytime soon. {Hopefully}) He punched the search engine app and walked across the phone to click the search bar. He ran back to the bottom, where the keyboard was placed.
“What is V…A…L…E…N…T…I…N…E…apostrophe…S…D…A…Y…question mark. And enter.” Kai ran to the top of the screen and waited for the overview to pop up. He began reading what it said.
“Valentine's Day, celebrated annually on February 14, is a global, secular holiday dedicated to expressing love, affection, and friendship through gifts like flowers, chocolates, and cards. Historically rooted in both Roman tradition (Lupercalia) and Christian martyr legends, it became associated with romantic love in the 14th century.” He paused, processing the information. “So it’s a holiday for affection and gifts? AND I DIDN’T GET JASPER ANYTHING?!” Jasper stopped snoring for a moment. Kai slammed a hand over his mouth, only releasing it when Jasper resumed snoring.
Kai sat on the kitchen counter. He plans for borrowing anything completely disappearing. He had to do something for Jasper. He reminded himself of the time he made (*Jasper notes* terrible) pancakes for Jasper. He could try that again. But that wasn’t very romantic. He could…make something! But he wasn’t any better than the average borrower. He;s have to be as good as Olivier to make something for a human. Especially a gift for a lover who was a human. This was impossible. Completely and utterly imp-
“Kai? What are you doing? I thought you didn’t borrow any more.” Oliver was walking across the floor.
“Uhhhh, nothing!” Kai pushed himself up. “Wait…what are you doing? I thought we agreed that you wouldn’t borrow any more, either,”
“Well I woke up and you were gone, thought I’d come look for you,” Oliver began heading back toward the wall. “I guess I know now. Good night.”
“Wait!” Oliver turned around. “C-Could you help me with something? I need to make something…” Kai fidgeted.
“What do you need, Kai? Mr. High and Mighty. Mr-”
“Shut up, I-please, Ollie.” Kai sighed.
Oliver cackled with laughter. “You want me to make Jasper a plush heart?! What sort of human tradition is that?!”
Kai’s face reddened with blush. “Shut up! It’s a good one! I-I just wanna give something to him!”
“Okay, okay, fine. You’re lucky I’ve forgiven him, or this would not be happening.” Oliver laid out his supplies. Red fabric, longer than either of them were tall, a needle, that had been broken for Oliver to use easier, some red thread, Kai didn’t want to ask where Oliver got a whole spool of red thread, and some stuffing, enough to fill a few borrower mattresses (just in case). Also, Oliver had a sharpened shard of glass to cut the thread.
2 hours later
“Why does this take so long?” Kai wiped his brow.
“Oh, that was nothing.” Oliver laughed. “This was a really simple design, just wait till you get to the advanced stuff. Without me to help you.”
“You’re crazy. But thank you! Now I gotta go back to his room and put it there.”
“You’re welcome. And, good luck, I guess.”
To bring the plush heart up to Jasper’s room Kai had to tie a string to it and tie that around his waist. He found out (the hard way) that he couldn’t take it through the walls, meaning he had to travel up the stairs, which would take so much longer than he would like. But it was for Jasper, so he would have to do it.
Kai stared up at the stairs. The first step was so high. This would be the first time he would’ve ever completely climbed the stairs.
“For Jasper and human holidays.” He muttered, before tossing his homemade grappling hook up to the first step. It hooked, he gave it a tug to see if it would stay. It stayed. He began climbing. He wished he was as good of a climber as Sage. That would’ve made all of this so much easier. But he was just barely above average for a borrower, but he enjoyed it. Or would've enjoyed it, IF IT WASN’T THE STAIRS!! But he was doing this for Jasper. His boyfriend. Jasper…
“Jeez, I am tired.” Kai said, standing on the fourth step. He laid against the wall and pulled the gift up. He was too tired to keep doing this and there were so many more steps. He felt like he would be climbing forever-
THUMP THUD THUMP THUD
The ground/stairs rumbled. Kai rubbed his face.
Wonderful. He’s awake already. And I didn’t even get to his nightstand. Kai didn’t know whether he should speak out or stay silent. He didn’t have time to do the first because Jasper’s giant socked foot slammed down on his step. Kai would’ve fallen if he hadn’t already been laying against the wall. Jasper stomped down the other three stairs and into the kitchen.
“JASPER!” Kai took a deep breath, Jasper didn’t notice him. Now he’d have to climb back down the stairs, into the kitchen, and then get Jasper’s attention from there. He threw the plush heart onto the lower step, jumped down, and landed on said plush heart. It was much easier to go down the stairs rather than up.
(*Ox notes* Real quick, Jasper is completely unaware that Kai is awake, otherwise he would not be acting like…this. He has his headphones in and is dancing and yeah. So just a little knowledge here, because I want to stay in Kai’s perspective for a little longer.)
Kai repeated the process a few more times, taking another break when he was on floor level. Kai had just noticed a few things: Jasper was wearing a tank top and was humming with that sweet voice of his. Kai walked towards the kitchen.
“Hey! Jazzy! Jasper!” Kai cupped his hands around his mouth, shouting. He got no reaction from the human. He tried shouting even louder, “JASPER?!”
“-Oh Cupid walks right though and shoots an arrow through my heart!!!” Jasper dumped something into a bowl, something else, another thing. Then he grabbed another bowl from a cabinet and poured some liquids into it. He danced around, nodding his head to his music. He, now, obviously had his headphones in.
Wonderful.
Kai dragged his gift along with him as he walked into the kitchen. Jasper’s song seemed to change. Kai could tell this because-
“This song is so good!” Jasper began singing in a language Kai didn’t know, nor one he knew that Jasper knew. (*Jasper notes* I was listening to Mark Chapman by Maneskin. I was singing in Italian.) His foot slammed down too close for comfort. Kai tried to throw the plush heart at his human boyfriend’s foot. Jasper moved before anything could happen.
“Jasper……” Kai gripped his face in annoyance. “Why?”
It’s my fault, it’s not like he know’s I’m up! He likes music and I never give him the chance to do what he wants, maybe that’s-maybe I…I should just go back to bed and wait till he wants me to wake-
“Kai?” That beautiful voice said his name. Kai looked up, Jasper was leaning over him. “You’re awake? Oh, sorry. I’ll-I’ll just-”
“What are you doing? If you want to listen to music, I can go back to my area and let you do whatever.” Kai looked to the ground, suddenly feeling guilty. Jasper bent down, his hand cupped around Kai.
“Do you know what today is?” Jasper gave a small smile.
“I had to look it up.” Kai put his hand on Jasper’s finger.
“Oh, sorry about that. But today’s for us to be together.” Jasper sighed. “I’m making pancakes…for you.”
“Oh, thank you. Uh, me and Oliver made this for you.” Kai pulled the plush heart forward. “I know it’s not a lot, but I wanted to give you something-”
“This is perfect.” Jasper picked both Kai and the plush heart. “But all I need is you. And this.” Jasper leaned down and pressed his lips to Kai. Warmth spread through the borrower’s body. The kiss was very light, but it was nice.
Morning light shed through the windows. Kai sat on the table, waiting for Jasper to finish setting up the breakfast.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Kai.” A giant plate was set down on the table. “Take whatever you want. Eat everything you want. It’s for you.” Jasper smiled. Kai stared at the plate that could hold a feast for a whole family and more.
“Oh my god.” Kai’s jaw dropped open. “I-I-you-it’s-oh my god.”
“Sorry. Is it too much? I know it’s a lot, but I thought it’d be nice.” Jasper fidgeted. “I really-”
“No! No, it's perfect!” Kai pulled himself onto the plate. “Thank you! Now I feel really embarrassed for not having a good or elaborate gift-”
“What?! No! Your gift is wonderful!” Jasper slammed his hands on the table, Kai was happy to already be on the plate. He took a deep breath and tried not to show his fear. Jasper could be aggressive sometimes. “Sorry.”
“It’s fine.” Kai waved him off. “I should be thankful. You’ve done so much for me. I don’t even know exactly what this day’s even about. But I know I love you. No matter what.”
“Morning lovebirds!” Oliver shouted from the ground. “Quit your jabbering, because I need some things Jasper.”
“Right. What’d you need?” Jasper slipped out of his chair and leaned down. Kai ran to the edge of the table and jumped onto his leg. He began climbing down his leg, gripping the gray fabric. “Kai. I could’ve just set you on the ground.” Jasper’s hand appeared below Kai.
“It’s fine.” Kai carefully climbed around Jasper’s fingers. “I like climbing.”
“C’mon, let me help you-”
“Jasper. I can do things for myself.”
“Right, yeah.” Jasper’s hand moved out of the way.
“Okay. I just asked for some help and to get some things, not for whatever this is. I’ll get it myself!” Oliver sighed and the sound of his footsteps furthered.
“Wait, I’m gonna help!” Jasper stood up. Kai held on even tighter.
“Jasper!” Kai began climbing back up his boyfriend’s leg. He didn’t want to fall and have Jasper step on him.
“Sorry. I was just trying to help Oliver, I didn’t mean-” Jasper’s knee re-bent as he sat back down. “I’m a terrible boyfriend.”
“Terrible boyfriend?!” Kai stared up at Jasper. “You’re an amazing boyfriend! You’re the best boyfriend! You made me a breakfast most borrowers could only dream of ever being presented with. My boyfriend’s an extremely talented human! You’re an absolutely wonderful boyfriend!” Kai walked up to his boyfriend’s stomach and tried to hug him. “I love you.”
(*Oliver notes* And they ask why I don’t get help from Jasper.)
“I-I-you-” Jasper’s hand came from behind and scooped Kai up. “I have to help Oliver.”
“It’s nice like this. It’s just you and me.” Kai ran his fingers through Jasper’s hair. He was sitting on the human’s forehead, enjoying the peace and quiet. The day had turned out good.
“Me too. Well, happy Valentine’s Day. I hope I didn’t ruin human holidays for you.” Jasper let out a sigh.
“It’s all well. Happy Valentine’s Day. I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
Happy Valentine's Day for those who celebrate it!!!!
I said I was gonna write the interactions so here we go!
(Jack and Noi) @yippeesizedifgohard
Noi was waiting for Lani to return. He decided to go for a walk, Lani would probably understand. He found a nice tree to rest for a moment. Just for a moment. He just fell asleep, for…for he didn’t know how long. He awoke with an unsettled feeling.
(Like ten minutes earlier)
Jack had never seen someone so large, even Edmund would be small compared to the huge man in front of Jack. He could tell that the giant was asleep, like a sleeping mountain. He was supposed to return to Roger…but…he wanted to feel that adrenaline rush. Maybe if he climbed this giant, he wouldn’t notice. Jack would be like a little bug to that giant, he’d be fine. He made his way forward, raising his arms up to the giant’s pants. He gripped onto the fabric and hoisted himself up, going higher and higher. What was really gonna be fun would be to climb the giant’s torso, so Jack needed to be atop the leg to get there quicker.
It was a wobbly surface, but Jack ran forward. Adrenaline was now coursing through his body. This was one of the best climbs he had ever done! He hooked his fingers into the giant’s shirt thing…a sweater vest. He could even hook his feet into the fabric, he climbed up and up and up. He could hear and feel the giant’s heartbeat and breathing. It was loud and slightly eerie, a bass thumping. Suddenly, the rhythmic breathing, a sign of sleep, stopped. Jack froze. He was climbing a stranger! The stranger was waking up, Jack was going to be in a lot of trouble.
Noi rubbed his eyes. He couldn’t shake that feeling. He looked around. Nobody was there. He looked down and his eyes landed on a moving, small figure. He held his breath, it must’ve been a human. They were climbing him. Noi was suddenly reminded of Jay and the first time he’d met him. If Noi had a gold piece every time he met someone and they climbed him he’d have two gold pieces. It’s not a lot, but still a weird amount of times.
“Hullo?” The giant’s voice rumbled below Jack. He froze, he was definitely in so much trouble. This giant would probably be mean and evil and bad and…Jack could feel his own heart beat over the giant’s. Fear paced through his mind. Jack wished Roger was here. Or Mabel even, he just could use a familiar face. Why did he make the decision to climb a stranger?
“Hello? Human?” The giant spoke again, his voice was surprisingly not very loud. Even though Jack was so close. It still did startle him though.
“Don’t hurt me!” Jack blurted. He didn’t know if he could trust this giant…yet.
“I won’t. Don’t worry.” The giant’s hands moved up, by his shoulders. “I have two questions for you,” Jack braced himself, “Number one, who are you?”
“Jack. My name is Jack.” He was hesitant to give his name, but did regardless.
“Okay. I’m Noi. And, uh, number two, why are you climbing me?”
“Uhhhhhhhh…” Jack’s only reason was because he liked to climb. But it really was a bad thing to do, he supposed, climbing a random person. He felt guilt well in his chest.“I like to. I’m very sorry though! I didn’t think much about it before I did! I’m sorry if it was weird!”
Noi put his hands over his ears with the human’s, Jack’s, apologizing. Why were humans so loud?! And insistent that they must yell so Noi could hear them. He didn’t mean to make Jack feel the need to apologize though. He didn’t really mind being climbed, but he would like to be asked first (okay, maybe except Lani).
“Relax, you don’t need to apologize. I don’t mind it. My girlfriend’s best friend climbed up me once. Hmm…actually, my girlfriend climbed up my arm before. The point is, it’s fine. Also, if you could quiet down a bit that would be nice.” Noi rubbed the back of his neck, a weird, sheepish smile appearing on his face.
“Oh, uh, sorry.” Jack seemed to be looking down.
“It’s fine.” Noi put his hands up. “Don’t worry. I just have sensitive ears.”
“Oh.” Jack stared up at the giant, Noi. A giant with sensitive ears…okay. Jack wasn’t gonna question it. Giants, even ones so abnormally large, were people. Jack still felt like he needed to apologize though. He didn’t want this giant to be mad at him.
“Uh, how old are you?” The giant’s voice dragged Jack from his thoughts.
“Oh, uh, fourteen (I think that’s what was said).” Jack muttered.
“Uh, where are your parents or guardians?" Noi was worried, Jack wasn’t that young, but he still should have an adult with him. Noi knew what it was like to lose his parents so he couldn’t say much. He also knew that there were humans up here who lived at the far edge of the woods, with his most previous conversation with Matt. A very crazy conversation.
“Well, hmm, I’m kinda lost right now, but it’s okay.” Jack paused for a moment, feeling the heartbeat below him. It had sped up a bit. “Uh, well, hmm, my guardians should be here…up here. My…Roger is a giant, but he’s not nearly as big as you. He’s, like, way smaller.”
“Oh?” Noi furrowed his brow. Smaller giants? Noi was tall, but…
“Uh, do you mind if I finish climbing you?” Ah yes, another normal question from someone climbing Noi, but Noi didn’t really care.
“It’s fine. Do you want me to stand or stay sitting-?”
“Sitting! Stay sitting! I don’t want to fall. I’m a good climber, but you’re, like, really big.”
“Okay.” The giant shifted, Jack gripped the fabric of Noi’s sweater vest, leaning closer to the giant. He suddenly leaned very far away from the giant, Noi was still a stranger. Jack felt very unstable so far away from the surface he was climbing. Jack felt so awkward at the moment.
“You okay?” The giant, Noi, spoke. Jack looked up, the giant’s head was looming above. There was the slightest bit of hair on his chin, it was orange, just like his head-hair. “Yeah. Mhm, I’m good.” Jack then stared forward. He wanted to look anywhere but Noi, but he couldn’t. The adrenaline from before was long gone.
“Don’t, uh, don’t fall.” Noi was a little worried, so he put his hand below the human. Jack was almost to his sternum. Noi gave Jack a thumbs up with his other hand.“You got it.”
(Younger Jackson and Oliver) @wildlegacy
“Do I even want to know?” Oliver tapped his foot and stared up at the supposed human boy in front of him.
“How did I get here?! Who are you?! Where’s my mama?!” Oliver covered his ears, why was this kid so loud?
“I’m Oliver.” Oliver muttered. “You can call me Ollie.”
“Why are you so small?!”
“My ears, quiet down dude!” Ollie yelled up at the giant of a boy. To be fair, he was smaller than Jasper.
“Oh, sorry. Am I like my mama now?!” The boy gasped. “I can get meatsticks now! But my mama’s gone…that’s not good.”
“What’s your name?” Oliver put his hands on his hips.
“Jackson! Do you know where I could get meatsticks?! Mama doesn’t get me them.” Jackson, okay, the ‘human’ had a name. “My mama is a goliath though, so she had to do bad work, she won’t let me come with her. I think I could be stronger though.”
“What the heck is a goliath?!” Oliver had become confused. Was that a job? Because the kid had mentioned a job.
“My mama!” Jackson grinned, he seemed so proud. “I’m small to her, but you’re smaller than I am to her. Do you think I am an actual goliath now?! I’m like Mama!”
“Jackson! Quiet down, I’m smaller than you! My ears hurt easier than yours!” Oliver sighed, his hands returning to his ears. He sucked in a breath. “Y’know, Jasper probably has meatsticks or something.”
“Meatsticks!?!” A twinkle of joy appeared in Jackson’s eyes. Oliver laughed out loud. The younger boy seemed so excited for something like a meastick. Okay, but seriously, where were his parents? His ‘mama’ specifically. How he got here was still a mystery too.
Jasper would probably be his best bet to figure anything out.
“JASPER?!” Ollie called into the rest of the house. “COME HERE!”
Oliver sighed as he heard Jasper’s footsteps coming closer.
“Oliver?” Jasper appeared in the room. “You’re actually talking to me?!”
“Shut up.” Oliver looked at Jackson. “Two things-”
“Why is there a kid in my house?” Jasper shoved his hands into his pocket. Jasper was actually a good caretaker of children, so it probably wasn’t a big deal.
“Jasper, this is Jackson, Jackson, this is Jasper. Now, back to what I was saying-”
“Wait…I’m not a goliath?!” Jackson frowned.
“No, you’re human…sized.(?!)” Oliver tugged at his hair. He hated being the only small person in a room of giants. Humans moreso. Wait…were either of the people there human? Know what, Oliver wasn’t gonna think about it. “Now, as I was saying!” He eyed the two giants to make sure they wouldn’t interrupt. “I have two things to say, Jasper?”
“Hmm?” Jasper walked closer, Oliver eyed him. He’d forgiven him, but he was still wary.
“Do you have any sort of meatsticks?”
“Uh, yeah, why?” Jasper raised his eyebrows. Oliver smiled.
“Yeah, so-”
“Meatsticks?!” Jackson grinned from ear to ear once more.
“There’s your answer. Now, number two, do you have any idea how he got here?”
“Me? You think I know?”
“I don’t know! You’re, like, more magicky and stuff!” Oliver threw his hands up in exasperation. “We can babysit him for now.”
“I want a meatstick! Can I have a meatstick now?!” Jackson was still too loud for Ollie’s liking.
And so they gave him a meatstick.
(Elio, you’re doing fingerguns and nobody can stop me.)
(Elio (real person) and Kai) @gtlurker
Kai: *Does fingerguns*
Elio: *Does fingerguns back*
Me: And here we have two borrowers in their natural habitat, the human home! They are giving each other fingerguns, I do not know what that means!
weeeeeeeeeeeee! i wrote something. i'm almost done with the Noi's Beanstalk chapter so yeah :)
Part 12:
Kai knew he heard a commotion.
But it had to be Ma. His Ma. How had Jasper stumbled upon-HOLY CRAP! WAS THAT CRICKET?!
“One sec, Jasper, get me up there!” And Jasper complied. His giant fingers wrapping about his tiny body and making him shoot up to the desk.
“Hey! Put him down!” Ma yelled.
“Well-I-no-”
“No, Ma. He’s not gonna hurt me. So shut up. But also…” Kai stumbled out of Jasper’s grasp. “Hi Cricket! It’s me! Kai, your older brother!! I left about a year ago.”
“I know-”
“Kai! You cannot just brush by the fact that you are in cahoots with-with…with that!” Ma interrupted, pointing a finger up at Jasper like he was some scary beast. What Kai thought was interesting at the moment was his little brother and the fact that Jasper could sit on his knees and still see over the desk.
“Ma. This is Jasper. He will not hurt us.” Kai stared at Jasper, who’d been quiet for too long.
“How do you know?!” Ma shouted, gripping Cricket fearfully.
“We’re not dead yet. You see?” Kai shot a glance at Jasper. “Plus, we’ve been talking for a few months. He’s known me for a few-”
“WHAT?! YOU LET HIM SEE YOU?!” Ma gasped, clutching her chest. Cricket wriggled out of her arms. “What is wrong with you?!”
“Mother.” Kai sneered. “I did not break the rules. His schedule had changed without my knowledge and he spotted me.” His voice had become stone cold, he hadn’t broken the rules. No matter what his mother said.
“I hate to butt in,” Jasper began, “but, Kai hasn’t done anything wrong-”
“And what would you know?! You’re just a stupid human!” Ma screamed.
Knock, knock, knock.
Knocking appeared on the door, it creaked open. It was Opal, who was in a nightgown. She rubbed her eyes, looking very tired. Kai knew the feeling.
“What is going on? I’m surprised Arden’s not awake, they’re closer. Oh.” Opal glanced at the desk, Kai waved. Cricket followed, waving joyfully, but Ma swatted his hand. Opal sprinted forward and shrunk as she ran.
Poor Jasper was the only human-sized human in the room. He awkwardly sat in front of the desk.
“Why are you…how?” Ma stared at Opal, who was again Kai’s height.
“Don’t know. It’s just been like this. That is my brother. My twin actually. Please, please, don’t prejudice him.” Opal glanced back at the giant of a man behind them, she had a warm smile on her face. Surprisingly, Kai’s mother hadn’t been as prejudiced towards Opal as Jasper.
“I’m just surprised. In all my life, no humans, no humans ever, would leave us alive. My parents are a true proof of that.” Ma stared at Opal. “And I’ve never heard of shrinking humans.”
“Well it’s not just that, Jasper can actually-”
“Opal, I think that’s enough.” Jasper’s hand hovered over Opal.
“Don’t touch her!” Kai’s mother said, it seemed almost as an instinct. Kai glared at his ma, he hoped he made it clear that Jasper was not gonna hurt anyone. Especially not his own sister. His beloved twin sister.
~~~~~~
Jasper felt embarrassed. Obviously, he wasn’t used to his sister being so small. It was strange, but she was still his sister. They were siblings, he couldn’t help but play. He was jokingly going to grab her (since he didn’t want Kai’s mum to know that he could get larger than he already was), he’d gotten used to picking up the borrowers…so it…it felt normal.
“Sorry.” He muttered, staring at the ground. He wished he could sink into the floor.
“Well, Ma’am, my brother isn’t gonna hurt anyone. You don’t need to fret.” Opal turned around and grinned at Jasper, which made him feel even worse.
“He’s still a human.” The older borrower glared at Jasper.
“Ma’am, you understand that I’m a human, correct?” Opal turned back to Kai’s mother. “Just because I’m currently your size does not mean I’m not a human.”
Jasper slouched, somehow still able to see the surface of the desk, so he stared at the floor. He was too tired to deal with any of this.
“Jasper…” That tiny voice of Kai’s mum, “Thank you for not killing us.”
The tiny thumping of borrower footsteps came from the desk, a sure sign that Cricket and his mum were back in the walls.
“Jasper, could you get us down?” Opal asked. Jasper looked up, hitting his head on the overhand thingy of the desk.
“Ow!” Jasper rubbed his head and looked up at the surface of the desk. Kai and Opal looked as if they had fallen. Jasper frowned at himself, he knew it was his fault.
“Are you okay, Jasper?” Kai stood up, a kind expression on his face. Jasper didn’t understand why he would be caring about Jasper’s head, while he had just fallen because of that.
“Looks like I’m gonna stay shrunk for a bit.” Opal chuckled to herself. She was trying to grow back to her regular size, it seemed, but she seemed to be struggling.
“What?” Jasper rested his hand by the two people on the floor. “Why? Are you okay?!”
“I’m fine, Mr. Spazzy Jazzy. This just happens sometimes. Don’t worry.” She patted Jasper’s finger. Kai was pacing back and forth, which made Jasper even more worried.
“Kai? Are you okay?” Jasper leaned over the two. Kai flinched.
“Huh?! What-no-yeah-?!” Kai stared up at Jasper.
“Are you okay?” Jasper repeated.
“Yeah. I was just thinking about my mother and Cricket.” Kai looked back down. “I haven’t seen them in over a year. Cricket…I could go without seeing my mother, but I do miss Cricket.”
“Oh.” Jasper glanced at Opal, who was inspecting Jasper’s fingers. He couldn’t imagine not seeing her. The two were so close, they were just about each others’ only friends. He looked back at Kai. Now Kai lived with Jasper, and Jasper didn’t visit Grandpa Jale’s house very often. It was his fault. Yes, he’d only met Kai about two or so months ago. (*Ox notes* Again, who knows how much time has passed. *Jasper notes* Why did you do this to us?)
“Jasper?” Kai muttered. “Are you asleep?”
“Trying to.” Jasper turned his head. Kai was laying beside Jasper’s pillow. He was so tired, he wanted to cry.
“Oh, sorry.” Kai was faced away from Jasper. “I’m sorry about my mum. She shouldn’t’ve acted that way. I guess you should be happy it wasn’t my pa, he wouldn’t have let you speak.”
“Mhm…” Jasper blinked, trying to stay away to keep talking to Kai. He was really tired…
~~~~~~
Not again! Kai flinched as Jasper’s hand slammed down in front of him. The (not so) soft sound of Jasper’s thunder-like snores rang throughout the room. Kai immediately turned around, Jasper’s face was soft. His glasses were still on his face, Kai’s eyes softened as soon as he saw his expression. His mouth was a little bit opened and he looked like a sleeping baby.
“Jasper…Jasper, I love you.” Kai brought his knees to his chest. Kai felt a surge of warmth in his chest. I live with him. Gosh, he’s…he’s so nice. Why did Ma have to be so rude to him? He’s done nothing wrong in all the time I’ve known him. I love you.
Jasper’s warm breath blew back Kai’s hair. Jasper’s chest rose and fell. Man, he must’ve been really tired.
Jasper’s face moved closer, his whole body turning. (*Ox notes* Jasper is a very active sleeper. He twists and turns and even sleepwalks sometimes.) Kai pushed himself as far away from him as to not get crushed.
“Oh shoot, his glasses!” Kai said out loud. I hate to wake him up, but he kinda needs those. If he turns, they’ll break…why is this my decision? He’s too tired. Kai tapped his foot. “Jasper! Jasper! Wake up! Your glasses!”
“Huh?! What?!” Jasper sat up, his glasses fell from his face, since he was facing down. Kai stared through the giant lens in front of him, his head hurt with the blurriness. Jasper stared down at Kai.
“Oh, crap, sorry.” Jasper rubbed his eyes. “Are you okay? I didn’t hurt you or anything, right?”
“No! No, but you were gonna roll over and break your glasses. I’m fine.” Kai felt guilty for waking Jasper up, but he was gonna break his glasses.
“Oh, uh, thanks.” Jasper’s giant hand plucked up his glasses, effortlessly. Kai, again, was very shocked and impressed. He then stood up, his legs rising like skyscrapers. Kai sighed.
Humans…how? How do they exist? They’re huge, it’s basically impossible.
Jasper fell asleep almost immediately. Kai felt bad again, he seemed so tired. Kai himself wasn’t feeling too tired. Kai had gotten closer to Jasper’s face (which probably wasn’t the smartest decision) and was tracing circles under his eye.
“Jasper. I hope you have sweet dreams. You’re so tired.” Kai leaned down, hesitating for a moment, before planting a few kisses on Jasper’s face. He blushed at himself.
God…he loved Jasper.
He really did.
Kai laid down on Jasper’s face (*Kai notes* Not safe, I know), he loved the warmth against his skin. He was so tired now.
“I love you Jasper.”
It felt much warmer than where Kai fell asleep. He was drenched in sweat. He opened his eyes and looked around. Darkness. Pressure.
Pain.
“Ow! Ow! Jas-Jasper.” Kai felt as if the world was on top of him. He felt the air being squeezed out of his lungs. “Jasper!”
Was he gonna die?
He couldn’t breathe.
The thing above him shifted, grinding him into the solid surface below. Then it lifted, but Kai was stuck against the above thing.
“Mmmmmm.” Everything rumbled. Kai’s bones shook, his eyes were ready to liquify. A giant hand flew toward Kai, the bottom of it pressed on Kai even more. His ribs felt like they were burning.
“Jasper…” Kai’s voice was hoarse. “Jasper…!”
“Gnnmmhh.” A groan, Kai knew it now.
He was stuck against Jasper’s face.
“Jasper! Help!” Kai tried to pry himself off of Jasper’s chin.
“Huh…?” Kai’s brain felt like mush, Jasper’s vocal cords were quite large.
“JASPER!” Kai yelled, his lungs burning.
“Kai?” Jasper was, again, too loud. Kai peeled one of his arms off of Jasper’s face and slammed it multiple times into Jasper’s face. “Oh shi-”
“It’s okay. It’s my fault. I fell asleep on your face, I should’ve known better.” Kai waved his hands at Jasper, who was crying with guilt in the corner of the room.
“I…I’m so sorry.” Jasper had his foggy glasses over his eyes.
“Jasper…” Kai tapped his foot. It wasn’t Jasper’s fault. Kai had just fallen asleep in a bad place.
“No! Don’t even say it’s okay! It’s not okay! You actually could’ve died, Kai.” Jasper was in the fetal position. Crying.
This night was so bad.
~~~~~~
Jasper wanted to throw up.
He wanted to crawl into a pit and die.
He could’ve killed Kai.
No, he didn’t mean to. It was a complete accident.
“Jasper. It’s not your fault. Please, listen to me, it’s okay. I’m alive.” Kai walked toward Jasper.
“Stay away from me!” Jasper pressed himself even further into the wall, before remembering the other borrowers lived there. He pushed himself away from the wall, staring down at his hands in horror. He rubbed his face, his heart beating too fast.
“Jasper, hey, wake up. We made breakfast.” A hand was on Jasper's shoulder. It was Arden. Jasper must’ve fallen back asleep.
“Aghk! What?! No! Oh. Oh it’s you.” Jasper rubbed his eyes.
“Jasper-well, I’ll be in the kitchen.” Arden walked away. Jasper pushed his legs out and sat against the wall. He stared up at the ceiling. He rubbed his eyes. Come on. Get up. They made breakfast. Be nice. Come on.
Jasper stood up, his legs aching from being sat down in an awkward position for so long. He glanced to the desk where he’d met Kai’s mum then stared at the floor. His heart was racing, he felt like Kai should be mad at him. He’d almost killed him!
“Morning Jasper!” Sage yelled from the table. Jasper gave a polite wave.
“We made pancakes, they’re on that plate, uh, yeah. Opal’s stuck small for now.” Arden motioned to a plate on the counter.
“Thanks.” Jasper muttered, taking a deep breath. He trudged to the counter, crouched down and grabbed a plate from the cabinet, and served himself two pancakes. He walked back to the table, setting down his plate, and pulling out a chair. He sat down, staring at his plate. He got back up and grabbed a fork before sitting back down. He poked at his food.
~~~~~~
Oliver did not want to go near Jasper, but Sage insisted he meet Arden. Arden was making pancakes and Sage was helping them. Then Jasper came out of his room.
“Ugh.” Oliver stared up at Jasper. Kai was sitting next to him.
“Leave him alone, he had a bad night last night.” Kai looked mad, though there was a slightly pink tint on his face.
“Bro, it couldn't have been that bad.” Oliver rolled his eyes. “If it’s anything about you, I don’t think he cares.”
“Shut up Oliver.” Kai’s brow furrowed into a more serious look. “Jasper’s had a hard time lately.”
“What?! Why should I care?!” Oliver gave a disgusted look. “He tried killing us-”
“SHUT UP! OLIVER, OH MY F**KING GOD!” Kai turned all the way towards Oliver. Oliver was taken aback by Kai yelling. He realized that everyone was staring at the two.
“Kai?” Jasper’s voice was quiet.
“Sorry. I yelled, sorry.” Kai turned away from Oliver. Oliver glanced around, he didn’t want to be stared at by everyone. Especially not the humans. “We’ll be quiet.”
“What did Oliver do this time?” Sage asked, walking over. “You don’t yell unless you’re actually very angry.”
“Oh, nothing. It’s nothing.” Kai sounded extremely irritated. Oliver felt bad. Kai was an amazing brother, but Jasper was…frightening.
“No, no, I wanna know.” Sage sat down, his face becoming more serious. Oliver wanted to leave the conversation before he could get ratted out.
“He tried to kill us, so why would I trust him?!” Oliver complained. He was so tired of having to explain why he hated Jasper.
“He didn’t try to kill you, Goldie-Oh my goodness, Oliver.” Sage put his hand on Oliver’s shoulder. “You know it was an accident. Stop holding a grudge against Jasper.”
Oliver pushed the hand off his shoulder. “You weren’t there, Sage.” Venom dripped off Oliver’s words.
“But I was.” Kai’s voice was still angry. “I know it was an accident. Stop it, Oliver. He’s had a rough time.”
“Hey! Kai?! Can I talk with you guys!” Opal wandered towards them. Oliver scoffed in annoyance.
“Go away.” Oliver shrugged.
“No, no, no. If you’re arguing about my brother, I’m talking with you too.” Opal looked very sure of herself. “Go on, what did Jazzy do?”
“Jazzy?” Sage raised an eyebrow. “Can I-”
“Not the time, Sage.” Kai grumbled.
“Ugh, it doesn’t matter what you call him. I’m not going near him.” Oliver didn’t care if ‘Jasper’ had a funny nickname, he wasn’t gonna go near him.
“Bro, get off his case!” Kai still had anger roped into his tone. “My goodness!”
“What is this about? Why does Oliver hate Jazzy?” Opal raised her eyebrows.
“He tried to kill us!” Oliver snapped.
“HE DID NOT TRY TO KILL US!” Kai lashed back, spit flew from his mouth. His face was full of rage. “IT WAS A F**KING ACCIDENT!”
“Kai?” Jasper repeated that name so kindly, but Oliver could so vividly remember his almost death. “Are you okay?” Kai stood up and stamped his food on the table“OH MY GOD JASPER! HOW ABOUT YOU WORRY ABOUT YOURSELF FOR ONCE IN YOUR-”
“KAI!” Sage yelled. Oliver winced. Sage never ever yelled. Ever. “SIT DOWN! YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE YELLING AT ANYONE!”
“Now, Oliver, tell Opal what happened.” Sage gave Oliver the scariest look he’d ever seen. Oliver looked to his feet.
“I don’t-”
“Oliver.” Sage’s voice was eerily calm.
“Okay.” Oliver spared a glance at Opal, then continued explaining what happened.
“I knew I should’ve stayed with him that day!” Opal pressed her hands to her face at the end of Oliver’s explanation. She sighed. “I’m sorry about that, but Jazzy likes to be independent. He’s always protected me, and he will protect anyone who needs it. He’s not gonna hurt you. This is basically my first time being small around him so…”
“He tried to-”
“He didn’t try to kill you, Oliver.” Opal was probably the calmest person in the room.
“B-B-But-” Oliver whimpered.
“When he found you? An accident. When you fell in his tea? An accident. He got his wisdom teeth removed. I get it, you guys don’t know how that works, but it’s not his fault. It was an accident, Oliver.”
“Uh…well, you don’t live with hi-”
“I’ve known Jasper my whole life, literally, you’re not gonna argue with me against my brother.” Opal’s demeanor darkened. “You don’t know him like I do.”
Oliver just stood there. He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t want to argue with a human, even when she was his size, about her brother. She’d put up a good argument. So what would he do? Goodness.
Oh crap. What should I do? I hate Jasper. I hate Jasper? Do I hate Jasper? Am I afraid of him? What? I am so confused now. I just made both Kai and Sage yell. What have I done? Oliver rubbed his face.
~~~~~~
Opal stared behind her at Jasper. He was eating a pancake.
You’ve helped me so many times, Jazzy. The best I can do is stop people from being afraid of you. I wish I could do more. So, so, so much more. Opal sighed. She wished she could help him more. He’d done so much for her, and she’d done so little for him. He was her best friend.
Noi’s Beanstalk: Weird ahh DC special!
(TW: Blood)
Lani didn’t know what to think. She was now on Noi’s shoulder as he was walking across the clouds to America’s Washington DC. Poor Noi had already been walking for quite some time. Jay would’ve teleported them, but he wasn’t good at that far of distances. And so much could go wrong with teleporting giants.
“Stop here!” Jay tugged on Noi’s collar. “There’s an amazing spot for Noi to stand. Right below us. It’s called…” Jay stared at the screen of his crystal. “The ‘reflection pool’ or something.
“Are you sure? I don’t want to ruin anything, and that sounds pretty important.” Noi’s head turned. Lani held her knees.
“Yeah, yeah, it’s like 160 feet (48.77 meters) wide or something. It’s more than double your height in length too.” Jay looked up at Noi, then to Lani. “I can teleport us down there now.”
Jay closed his eyes and muttered a few things under his breath. Suddenly, Lani was dizzy and nauseous. That was the bad thing about teleporting. It was so disorienting. Imagine disintegrating and being mushed around, then becoming whole once more.
Screams came from below.
Ohhhhh… Lani stared down. Right, they’ve not seen giants before, have they? I suppose I understand.
“People! We come in peace!” Jay shouted. Noi’s head jerked away from Jay and Lani. His hand shot up, knocking Jay and Lani off balance. Jay fell and Lani almost fell off.
“Jay!” Noi’s voice rose, Jay jumped.
“Sorry, sorry!” Jay stood back up and jumped off Noi’s shoulder.
“Jay!” Lani’s brow furrowed, her best friend was crazy. “Noi! Catch him!”
“Okay. I got him.” Noi’s hand moved from his ear, down. There was a tiny thump and the sound of gasps. Lani crawled to the edge of Noi’s shoulder, gripping the fabric of his shirt for stability. Jay was safe in Noi's hand.
“Hello citizens of Washington DC! My name is Jay! This is Noi! Up there on his shoulder is Lani! Don’t mind us!” Jay shouted, Lani could hear his smile.
“Jay. Shut up. Please.” Lani rolled her eyes. She walked across her boyfriend’s shoulder, and began to climb down in his hand.
“Lani? What’re you doing? Here, let me help.” Noi’s other hand cast a shadow over Lani. It dipped down and scooped Lani from the fabric.
“Hey! Hello! You! Up there!” A voice came from below. Lani glanced down as she was dropped next to Jay, a woman in a security uniform was staring up at Noi.
“Yes?” Noi’s body lowered. The lady backed away.
“Hey! I am armed! S-stay back!” She hefted a gun from her belt and aimed her shaking hand at Noi’s face. Lani froze.
“He’s not gonna hurt you!” She leaned over Noi’s finger.
“W-Well, tell it to get out of the Reflecting Pool, it is in fact illegal!” The lady backed away more, her gun still aimed at Noi’s face.
“Oh, my apologies, we didn’t know.” Noi apologized, standing back up. He lifted one of his feet from the ‘pool’, water dripped from the sole of his boot. It crashed down on the grass, half of Noi’s foot landed on a cluster of trees. More screams. Noi lifted his other foot very slowly, he paused, hesitating, but he still planted his foot down on the trees and grass with a sickening crunch! Lani shuddered, remembering just how strong her gentle giant of a boyfriend was.
“The trees!” The security guard shouted.
“‘Well, uh, sorry. I didn’t exactly mean to crush them, but I…I’m sorry.” Noi hung his head, which for him was basically the same thing as looking down. There wasn’t much difference.
“Just leave!”
“Alright, c’mon Noi! Let’s go see other things! I heard there’s a building as tall as you!”
“Jay…” Noi groaned.
Noi took little time to get to the building Jay was specifically talking about.
The Washington Monument.
The Washington Monument was a 555 foot, 5 inches, and ⅛ of an inch building. Normally people would call that huge. But when your boyfriend’s over 600 feet tall, you know tall and huge.
“So…humans actually built this?” Noi dropped Jay and Lani on the ground near the base of the Washington Monument. He stood back up and stared at the Washington Monument. From where Lani was standing she couldn’t see the tip of the Washington Monument, but from what she could see, Noi was a little bit more than eye level with the obelisk.
Gods. He’s huge. Lani stared up and up and up.
“Wow, Noi’s huge.” Jay seemed to read Lani’s thoughts (he probably can).
“Gods, I feel so awkward just standing here. Lani. I’m bigger than the building.” Noi shielded his face with his hands.
“Daddy, whatsat??” A human child and her father walked by. The child pointed up at Noi.
“Oh my god! Livi, don’t stare. C’mon.” The father dragged his daughter along. The little girl waved at Noi, who was peeking through his fingers.
She’s not afraid. Lani chuckled to herself.
“Hey Lani, uh, wanna go to the top?” Jay pointed at the doorway of the Washington Monument (yes, you can go to the top).
“That’s so high up though.”
“Lani, your boyfriend is a giant.” Jay stared up at said boyfriend. Noi stared at the ground, watching the other humans walk around and stare up at him. His stance was awkward, but who wouldn’t be in that moment?
“Fine. Let’s go.”
(Elevator. Hehe.)
“Noi?!” Jay called out, seemingly wondering if Noi could hear them from here.
“Jay, don’t yell in here.” Lani shot a look around the room, and other people in the room stared.
“What? I know it’s you Jay.” Noi’s voice came from outside of the Washington Monument. People around the room froze. Noi’s brown eye moved in front of the window, blocking the view. Screams arose once more.
“Agh!” Noi’s voice boomed. Lani frowned.
“People! Listen to me! That giant out there, don’t fear him!” Lani tried not to yell, but her voice was surprisingly loud.
“She’s right, don’t fret!” Jay had a pained grin on his face.
“Listen to the lady!” A tall man with red hair (huh, I wonder who that could be…), his voice laced with an accent, similar to Noi’s. “Everyone needs to calm down. Please?” His voice was shy, but his stature seemed to help. He was very tall for a human.
Lani and Jay seeked out the tall redhead. Lani wanted to thank him. She walked across the room, looking up and over everyone’s heads, something she was weirdly used to.
“Excuse me, sir?” Lani walked up behind that same tall redhead. He had a red hoodie on, and was facing away from Lani. A visible jolt ran through the man. He turned around.
“Uh, hi?” He pushed his glasses up on his nose, his eyes a deeper, more vibrant green than Lani’s.
“Hello. I’m Lani Jack, this is my friend Jay. The giant outside, well that’s, um, well, he’s my boyfriend, Noi.” Lani wasn’t too sure if it was a good idea telling a stranger this.
“Oh, I’m so sorry. I think I was too loud. Oh, uh, my name’s Jasper.” Jasper’s hands were shoved in his pocket. “I can’t believe I did that, honestly.”
“Well, thank you. Noi has sensitive ears, which doesn’t pair too well with the fact that people are scared of him.” Lani rubbed her neck and looked to Jay-
Where’d Jay go?
Lani would have to look for him later.
“Oh, you're thanking me? Oh.” Jasper looked around. “You’re welcome?”
“Here, let me introduce you to Noi.” Lani said, with a smile. As if on cue, Noi spoke.
“Lani, can we go now? People are staring-OW!” The Washington Monument shook. It’d gotten pretty dark out, but Lani hadn’t really cared. But, there was an airport very close by. That’s what the red blinking lights on top of the monument were for.
The planes.
Noi himself was taller than the monument, he didn’t have lights on his head. It made it even worse with the dreary, foggy weather at the moment.
A plane must’ve hit Noi’s head.
Noi must’ve bumped the monument in surprise.
Gods, the plane.
Were the people okay?
Noi could do a plentiful amount of damage when he wasn’t careful.
“What was that? Is he okay?” The redhead, Jasper, looked toward the window. “I doubt it’s safe, but we need to get back to the ground.
“I got it!” Jay appeared from who knows where. “Give me your hand.”
“What?!” Jasper stared at Jay like he was crazy, which he was. Lani gave him her hand.
“Just trust him.” Lani felt bad for making a stranger immediately trust her crazy best friend. “Please?”
Jasper reluctantly gave Jay his hand.
Jay teleported them once more. Lani felt sick and nauseous again.
Once they were solid again, Lani immediately turned towards Noi. He looked kinda scary in the darkness. He had a plane in the crook of his arm and a hand on his forehead.
“Ow, ow, ow, ow. Ow!” Tears spilled down Noi’s face, which had a pained expression painted on it.
“Noi! Noi, are you okay?” Lani sprinted towards her giant lover. Noi shifted the plane onto his lap and rubbed his eyes.
“It flew into my face!” Noi groaned. “And you’d think my hair is bright enough.”
Lani stared up at Noi from his knees. She gripped the fabric of his jeans and began climbing. Lani hated climbing Noi’s jeans, but she couldn’t care less at the moment. As soon as she was atop Noi’s leg she ran toward Noi’s body, but was stopped by the plane in front of her.
“Noi, please put the plane on the ground.” Lani stared up at Noi’s face.
“Mhm.” Noi sniffled and lifted the plane effortlessly from his lap. He moved the plane onto the ground next to him. Lani immediately began sprinting towards Noi’s body. She wanted to hug him. Staring up at Noi from his stomach was better than from his feet, but it was still hard. Lani spread her arms and pressed herself against Noi. Then she began climbing up his torso.
“Noi, is your head okay?”
“It hurts.” Noi removed his hand from his forehead, blood was dripping down his face.
Shoot. I need Jay. I need medical help. I can’t do this alone. Lani gripped Noi’s shirt and glanced back at Jay and Jasper. Jay wouldn’t hear her…
“Jasper!” The redhead looked up. “Tell Jay that I need help!”
Jasper gave two thumbs up. He tapped Jay’s shoulder and talked for a moment-
“Hey, let’s get Noi healed.” The weird wizard appeared next to Lani. Jay’s voice was serious, very different from his normal actions. Jay muttered something and Lani began floating.
“Whoa!” Lani exclaimed.
“C’mon.” Jay grabbed Lani’s wrist and dragged her upwards.
Giant wounds seem so much bigger than they really are, but Noi’s definitely was bad. Getting an airplane to fly straight into your forehead can do that. There was enough blood running down Noi’s face to drown Lani and Jay.
“Noi, hold pressure to your head.” Jay instructed. Lani was surprised at his commanding nature. Noi’s hand shifted and Lani could see his muscles flex as he pressed it against his forehead. “Good. Now, Lani, I will have Noi lift his hand and I need you to run under it and press these bandages to the wound.”
“Jay, I’m not sure you have enough…” Lani trailed off as Jay pulled a giant roll of medical bandages from thin air. He released his grip from Lani’s wrist and handed her the bandages.
“I’ll be right back. I’m gonna get Jasper to talk to the pilot of the plane.” Jay poofed from the air before reappearing about a minute or so later.
“Jay…please help me.” Noi’s voice was shaky and hurt.
“Okay Noi, now, lift your hand.” Jay glanced at Lani, who was still kinda just floating there. Noi’s hand lifted, blood dripping down his palm and face. Lani willed herself forward and tugged on the bandages, she dipped under Noi’s lifted hand and dragged the bandages across the wound and pressed them down as hard as she could. Her hands and arms became covered with blood.
“I love you Noi, hold strong.” She muttered, planting a quick kiss on his skin.
“Move aside now.” Jay said following Lani under Noi’s hand. He placed both his hands on Noi’s wound and began mumbling a healing spell. “Noi, move your hand.”
“Mhm.” Noi’s hand lowered, in front of his eyes. “Oh gods.” Noi’s head bobbed back and forth.
“Noi?! Noi, are you okay?!” Lani lowered herself in front of Noi’s face.
“How much blood…oh gods.” Noi’s eyes crossed, staring at Lani. “Lani, I’m not feeling so well. I don’t think this is a good holiday.”
“It’s gonna be okay. We’re lucky to have Jay with us. I hope the guy, Jasper, can deal with the plane.” Lani glanced down at the redhead.
“Lani…I’m not feeling so…” Noi’s eyelashes flickered, his head bobbing.
Crap, Noi’s gonna pass out! Lani panicked, there was not nearly enough room for him to fall without breaking anything.
“Noi, Noi look at me!” Lani snapped her fingers. “Stay focused on me, c’mon!”
“Y-You’re too loud. There’s too much blood. Lani…?” Noi’s watery eyes acknowledged Lani.
“I’m so sorry.” Lani put her hands on Noi’s nose. “Jay’s helping you. Stay with me.”
Lani floated there for so long, she began to lose feeling in her legs. But she just needed Noi to focus on her. As Noi blinked, Lani got an idea. If Lani’s shirt was messed up or her hair, Noi always wanted to fix it. Usually, Lani would always do her best to make sure things were neat and tighty for her lover. Noi’s blinks were heavy, so Lani could give Noi something to focus on. When Noi took his next blink, Lani turned her shirt and jostled her hair. (By the way, I’m basing these things off of real things I do. I am Noi, y’all. I would’ve died if Lani did this in front of me. My best friend does things like that to annoy me.)
“You’re shirt.” Noi said almost immediately. “Your hair.” He wiped his eyes with the back of his hands. His currently not bloody hand moved to Lani’s body, he stuck out his finger. Lani held her breath. Noi was very gentle, but his finger was still bigger than Lani. Noi’s fingernail caught on Lani’s shirt, dragging back into its proper place. Noi sniffled and moved his finger to Lani’s head, delicately flattening her messed up hair.
“I’m done.” Jay called out, his voice still serious. “His head is fine.”
“Thank you so much Jay!” Noi threw his hand up to his forehead and grabbed Jay.
“Aghk!” Jay yelped as Noi rushed him down to his chest. Noi’s version of a hug. Noi spent the next few minutes feeling his forehead in relief and almost breaking a plane. Then, everyone sat in silence for quite a while.
“Uh, hey, uh, I talked to the pilot!” Jasper called from the ground. “So, uh, yeah.”
“Thank you!” Noi reached down and carefully picked up Jasper, who seemed to be afraid.
“What-whoa!” He exclaimed.
“Noi! You can’t just pick people up like that!” Lani, who was now back on the ground, said.
“Whoa, whoa, no, no, no!” Jasper closed his eyes, something sinking into his voice. “Oh shiiii-”
“What?” Noi froze, his sloppy smile fading. “Did I hurt you?”
“No, I’m fine…” His voice was cut off by his breath, which was speeding up quickly. Noi quickly put the tall redhead down.
Then they moved on. They all were done with the conversation and actions, so Noi carried them to the Lincoln Memorial, which he could, sadly, not see. Lani felt bad and took as many pictures on her crystal as she could.
“You guys, uh, want to see something?” Jasper grabbed something from his shoulder and shoved it into his pocket and stepped closer to the statue. “God, I don’t know if I should do this.” The tall man took a deep breath.
“What? Jasper, are you okay?”
“Just…just don’t freak out. I don’t think I’d expect you to, but please don’t freak out.” The redhead lifted his hands up, his breath speeding up slightly.
“Dude, are you okay?” Lani felt concern towards Jasper, even though she didn’t know him. But honestly she couldn’t expect what he did. At first, she didn’t exactly realize what was happening, being so desensitized to giants, but then she realized.
He was growing.
“Wait, wait, wait, what?! How?! That-you-what?!” Jay stared at the growing man. “I’ve been trying to grow and shrink humans for so long! How?! How?!”
“Jay! Jau. Quiet down!” Lani shouted in her dear friend's face.
“Okay, jeez! I’m just shocked.”
“So, uh, thank you for not freaking out completely. And it’s not magic or anything. I’m just kinda like this.” Jasper stopped growing when he was around as tall as the memorial. “So, uh, yeah. Do you mind taking a picture for my sister and Grandpa?”
“Oh, yeah sure. Can I have your crystal?” Lani ran forward.
“I don’t have a…crystal? But I do have a phone. Uh, I’d assume it’s like your crystal thing.” Lani didn’t know what a phone was, but took the thing from Jasper’s fingers. “Thank you.”
Lani clicked a button, which brought her to a camera. Jasper wrapped his arm around the memorial (no, that’s not allowed) and smiled. He had a nice smile. Lani took a few pictures and returned the ‘phone’.
“So, Jasper, uh, how large can you get exactly?” Noi asked, staring at the still-small-to-him man that Jasper was.
“Well I don’t try to get much larger than this. It’s weird, and, well, my boyfriend is-” Jasper slammed his hand over his mouth. “Uhhh…”
“What? Your boyfriend is…what?” Noi inquired. “If you’re wondering if we care if you're gay, we do not care. I myself am bi.”
“That’s not it, but thank you for telling me.” Jasper looked away from Noi. “I don’t think…I don’t know if…god, Kai?”
Who’s Kai?
Jasper reached back into his pocket, his hand closed. He quickly shrank back to his normal height, his fist still closed.
“My boyfriend is…small. God, this is so weird, but I guess you might know what that’s like. No offense!”
~~~~~~
Jasper opened his hand. Kai stared up at him.
“Sorry.” Jasper muttered. Lani and Jay gasped. Noi leaned over him, squinting his mismatched eyes.
“What? What are we looking at…oh shiiii-sorry, Oh my gods. Sorry. Gods, you’re a person. Sorry.” Noi’s eyes widened. How he could see Kai with his size, Jasper didn’t know. Jasper could barely see Kai when he was bigger. And what, Kai must’ve been a spec to the giant, Noi.
“What-OH HOLY FU**!” Kai stared up and up and up and up at Noi. “Jasper, what in bloody hell is going on?! I was asleep for…I don’t know, time?! And this! This is what I woke up to?!”
“Kai. Calm down. Please.” Jasper stared down at Kai. “Sorry.”
“Jasper. You’re crazy, I love that about you, but what the heck did you drag me into?” Kai gestured to the giant (the actual giant) behind him. “What is that?!”
“Uh, well, uh…” Jasper took a deep breath, as to not accidentally grow. He glanced up.
“That’s Noi.” Lani saved Jasper from having to say anything else.
“Uh, what? Who are you?!” Kai fell over in Jasper’s hand.
“I’m Lani, that’s Jay, and the giant is my boyfriend, Noi.”
“WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD HAVE A GIANT AS A BOYFRIEND-oh.” Something Kai said hurt Jasper’s heart. Kai’s realization of what he said caused him to look away from Jasper. “Sorry.”
“It’s fine.” Jasper mumbled.
“Well, uh, so, you’re Kai.” Lani glanced up at Noi. “Is this what Noi feels like? No offense!”
“It’s okay. So, uh, Lani, is your friend Jay okay?” Kai said. Jasper glanced over at Jay, who he’d not been paying much attention to. Jay’s jaw was still dropped and he was kinda just staring.
“I think he’s just shocked. We’ve only ever really seen giants and he’s been trying to shrink and grow people for so long.” Lani ran a hand through her ponytail. “It’s just kinda strange to us.”
“It’s strange to us too.”
I didn't exactly know how do finish it, so here you go!! Yay!!(?)
