So I'm old and going through older stuff that I used to like as a kid and have just been feeling off and weird and while playing FFXIV and in a certain area in Endwalker and I just got this ache in my chest for something ancient. Something soulful and deep. A cry in a dark twisted city with a voice grating yet enthralling. It speaks with a metallic voice the heavy heart beating in the dark. Sobs in pain, weeps in chords, builds and frets and screams in rage and hope.
It can't rain all the time. The sky won't fall forever. And though the night seems long. Your tears won't fall forever.
So just picture some punk kid Garlean, fed up with the way the world is now. Not sure how to move forward. Unable to look back. He's seen the bards from the savage nations come through with their music and instruments. The flutes and lyres and drums from far flung parts of the empire and beyond.
All speak with the voices of their people. Soft notes of the forest and ancient places. Sharp chimes and drums of sands and shores. Somber songs of dragon slaying and lively strings of savage seas.
This though, made of magitech and grit, would be his voice to add to the chorus. It would speak for his heart, for his people, when none of them could.
So this is from the Crow 1994 film. Ancient I know. But the scene just came to mind walking through the Forum Solius. Endwalker folks know it as the saddest swings in the world.
I am working on a concept for a character and well this is just a thing I needed to get off my chest.
