Thinking about horrid, horrid family dynamics present throughout grail Quest characters rn
Going from least to most fucked starts with Richard Hooke, who i think would be an ok father to his daughter Wendy if not for the fact he's lost at sea. Hard to be considered a good parent if you are being kept from them against your will though understandable. I still dont know if I want him to survive or not.
Up next is Lillian/Lily-White, whose mom has recently married into royalty!!! Waow! Admittedly navigating court etiquette and expectations is nerve-wracking but she's got her sister, her mom, and new dad that can turn into a bear- Oh wait hang on. Her sister got injured after their grandma turned into a wolf. And this other lady who also claims to be a grandma is telling her to find this maguffin to fix it. Because it was a shapeshifters fault. Hm.
Hanzel & Grethel go without saying I feel. Hey kids get left in the woods and end up in the clutches of a cackling witch. Bonus of The Sand & Dew Fairies from the opera version who do NEOT help them in this scenario. Give Grethel powers and then just go "Ok gl kidssss"
Percival is actually pretty fine and normal if you ignore their mom's death and father's suspicious past and their father's relationship to the Fisher King and the general well of rot they feel in their gut at all times.... Which is to say that Percy thinks this is all fine and normal and how family relationships are supposed to be. Someone points out how fucked it sounds and they start sweating and trying to excuse it. "I am a very normal and ok knight" - stated by someone who is failing to believe that.
Anything involving The Snow Queen/Mother Holle is so insane I don't know how to start getting into it. Uhm. Clementine met Mother Holle because she was in a Rapunzel situation where she was being locked up for evil purposes. She managed to leave during a snow storm and Mother Holle offered refuge yay yippee. Proceeding for several years Mother Holle kept having to revive Clementine because The Captors kept sending people to kill her. Eventually the whole tower got frozen so that stopped happening but Clementine is dead several times over and is being kept around solely via Ice Magic. This makes her very fun to hang out with(lie) and unable to withstand a direct hit without shattering(true).
Clementine eventually gets to meet her very estranged brother, Kaj "has so many curses it's not even funny" Lastname. They have quite different opinions on The Snow Queen("saved my life so many times" v "kidnapped me and rewrote my memories to forget my friends") and it takes forever for either of them to even realize that because they just do not want to be around each other. Kaj hides the fact that he even knows Mother Holle for ages and is limiting interactions to "hey. we need to lock in on stopping the undead thing. here's another lead on that ok byeeeeeee". Clementine is ok with this because she is hashtag autism warrior no 1. Until the inevitable reveal because again she is autism warrior no 1. "Why would you hide information that would make our relationship better for so long you kept me wondering what your problem was for ages-" and then they get into a fist fight. Everyone else in the room is just trying to ignore it politely.
