Kaleli (singular), Kalelie (plural) - Kahl - ehl - ee - yeh (Gaian pronunciation)

Also known as “deep folk”, these are people who live in the depths of Vathquo, Gaia’s oceans. They often appear to have traits from Earthen animals, with one noteworthy Kaleli (Jackie!) having giant squid and electric eel traits. They are bioluminescent and very variable, with some being better adapted for shallow waters, some for abysses, etc. They can live on land, as long as they stay heavily hydrated and don’t get too hot or dry. 

A delicacy among Kalelie are Gaia’s various waterborne gastropods, known for glowing in colors meant to warn possible predators of poison. Kalelie, however, are immune to most poisons, and are known to credit consumption of the aforementioned “glowslugs” (as they are called) to their own bioluminescence. 

Inspired by a mix of things - a Bioshock monster AU, the Sea Wings in Wings of Fire, culture in the book Dark Life, the ADAM slugs in Bioshock, etc.
