Aspiring Hero Profile: Youta

Since the wonderfully cocky teen with a snarky attitude and an intense Quirk has made his first appearance, it’s time for his character profile. Enjoy!

Character Name: Youta Kaneyama

Quirk Description: Overload - The user of this Quirk can manipulate the density of any objects that they touch, often causing them to become so heavy that it compromises their structural integrity. The weight gained is directly proportional to how many fingers the object is touched with. For example, if an object is touched with only a single finger, it will gain a small amount of weight whereas being touched with ten will almost always crush the object under its own immense mass. When this Quirk is used on living beings, the weight is far less intense. They will become so heavy that they are forced down to the ground, unable to lift their head or any of their limbs. The weight generated by the Quirk originates from the user’s hands before being transferred, meaning that their own body is susceptible to its effects, although to a lesser degree. The added weight to their fingers causes pain in the joints. They often crack their knuckles to alleviate this feeling.

General Appearance: The top of Youta’s hair is long and extremely wild, while the sides are far shorter and neater. He often spends most of his mornings meticulously applying hair gel until the top is sufficiently messy. His hair is often mistaken for black at first, but it is actually a subtle plum colour. His eyes are a deep indigo, the result of the same mutation that turned his hair purple. He has full, bushy eyebrows that often make his expressions far more severe than he intends. He has a deep scar on his left eyebrow that has left a permanent bald patch. Spending most of his time outdoors in the Kagoshima sun, his complexion is darker than most others and he always sports a healthy tan. He’s 5’8” with a toned, muscular build due to all the heavy objects he lifts. His nose is large with a wide bridge, and he has a well-defined chin. He mostly wears tank tops and shorts even in the rainy season, at most putting on a light fleece. He sticks to colder colours like purple, grey, blue and green.

Hero Appearance / Equipment: Youta’s hero costume is specifically designed to help him to lift heavy objects that have been affected by his Quirk, as they can make for deadly improvised weapons when thrown or dropped from a great height. The most important feature to his costume is the specially-tailored black elbow bracers that start at the biceps and end at the wrists. They act as a special reinforcement that keeps his arms steady when lifting and ensures that they are not taking the full brunt of the weight. These bracers allow him to use his Quirk to full capacity without worry about short-term injury or muscle damage caused by lifting. He also has bracers on his knees which are far less complex that help when he has to kneel or bend down to lift or move an object. A logo with the letters KG in gold are inlaid on each of the bracers. The rest of his costume is the basic male template without any other fancy designs, although he personally cut off the sleeves, so his arms remain bare aside from the bracers. Overall, it has a purple and black colour scheme and is lacking a helmet or head protection of any kind. His jacket is a dark purple, with black trousers and black boots. He actually enjoys when his costume takes battle damage, so it is usually rife with tears and holes so long as its functionality isn’t affected.

Personality: With his extremely effective but destructive Quirk, Youta has believed from an early age that he was born to be a professional hero. His idea of a hero is someone who dives into a rough situation on their own and can win without the help of others. He thinks that hesitating is the worst thing you can do in a sensitive situation, and that nothing good comes from sitting back and praying that things will work out on their own. He tries to follow this idea and is often the first to act when many others are stunned or frightened of the dangers in front of them. One of the tell-tale signs of a hero is acting before thinking, but this fearlessness often does more harm than good however, and many people find they must work around Youta instead of with him. It may even require others putting themselves in even more danger to save him. He rarely feels guilty for endangering the lives of others, as he feels that a little danger can be good for everyone. People often describe him as an adrenaline junkie, as he gets an intense thrill the riskier a situation is. He can’t sit still and is always moving in one way or another. He often always has a snarky comment for any situation and enjoys banter with the other students when not being told off for his reckless behaviour. He gets along well with people who don’t take themselves too seriously.

Other / Trivia: Youta’s birthday is March 10th and he is 15 when joining Koushujin. His first name comes from a combination of ‘you’ meaning ‘sun’ or ‘male’ and ‘ta’ meaning ‘thick’ or ‘big’. His surname comes from a combination of ‘kane’ meaning ‘metal’ and ‘yama’ meaning ‘mountain’. Cooking is one of the few low-octane hobbies that can hold his attention, although he has a particular love for insanely spicy foods or ones with unusual, potent flavours. He adores the taste of strong, black coffee and detests when milk or sugar is added. He’s quite the culinary snob!
