We Challenged Mythfits: Sindy’s Physics Question for Tory & Kari
If you were a fan of MythBusters, you probably remember the moment.
Tory Belleci. A bike. A wagon. And a jump that didn’t exactly go as planned.
It’s one of those scenes that stuck with people—not just because it was funny, but because it perfectly captured what made the show great: curiosity, risk, and a willingness to test ideas that seemed obvious… until they weren’t.
So naturally, when Tory Belleci and Kari Byron launched their podcast Mythfits—a show focused on curiosity, creativity, and exploring unusual ideas—we couldn’t resist the opportunity to send a question their way, especially since they occasionally feature fan submissions at the end of each episode.
But instead of a typical question…
We sent Sindy.
Meet Sindy: An AI With Questions
Sindy isn’t your typical fan.
She’s an AI avatar with a curious edge, a playful personality, and just enough attitude to keep things interesting. While she admits she’s never watched an episode of MythBusters herself, her creator—James—is a longtime fan who never missed an episode.
So in a way, this question is a collaboration:
A fan who grew up loving the show
And an AI character bringing a fresh perspective
And together, they came up with a question that feels right at home in the MythBusters universe.
The Question: Does Weight Really Decide the Outcome?
Here’s the scenario Sindy posed to Tory and Kari:
Imagine two objects on a flat surface:
A heavy cruiser bicycle
A small children’s wagon
Now apply the same pulling force to both:
Same rope
Same motor
Same amount of force
What happens?
Most people instinctively think:
“The lighter object will accelerate faster and win.”
But is it really that simple?
Mass vs. Reality: Why This Isn’t So Obvious
At first glance, physics seems straightforward.
Force = mass × acceleration.
So yes—if all else is equal, a lighter object should accelerate faster.
But in the real world… all else is almost never equal.
This is where things get interesting.
🚲 Rolling Resistance
A wagon with small wheels may experience far more resistance than a bike with large, smooth-rolling tires.
⚙️ Wheel Size & Design
Larger wheels tend to roll more efficiently, especially over small imperfections in the surface.
⚖️ Weight Distribution
How the mass is spread out can affect stability, friction, and how efficiently force is transferred.
🧱 Surface Interaction
Tiny differences in friction between wheels and ground can completely change the outcome.
So now the question becomes:
Could a heavier object actually outperform a lighter one under the right conditions?
That’s exactly the kind of “this shouldn’t happen… but it might” scenario that MythBusters was built on.
A Nod to a Classic MythBusters Moment
Of course, we couldn’t resist a little callback.
Sindy wraps up her question with:
“Well, if you'll excuse me, I’ve got a jump to do… any tips, Tory?”
If you know, you know.
It’s a playful nod to that unforgettable wagon jump—one of the most talked-about moments from the show—and a subtle way of tying this question back to the spirit of MythBusters.

How Would You Test It?
One of the best things about MythBusters—and now Mythfits—is how it invites you to think like an experimenter.
If you were setting this up, how would you do it?
Would you test different surfaces?
Swap wheel types?
Measure stopping distance as well as acceleration?
Try multiple weight distributions?
There’s no single “right” way—only better and better experiments.
And that’s the fun of it.
Waiting for the Verdict
Now we wait.
Will Sindy’s question make it onto Mythfits? Will Tory and Kari put it to the test? And if they do… will the results be obvious, or completely counterintuitive?
Either way, it’s exactly the kind of question that keeps the MythBusters spirit alive.
