from growing up with all the riches one could think of at the palm of his hands to ascending to godhood and eventually finding himself all alone in this world with nothing more than simple scraps and a broken down shrine to his name, xie lian could say that his life had gone through many ups and downs. the loneliness, the pain, the poverty... he had gotten used to it all by now, not feeling the need to strive for anything more than what was absolutely necessary. if he were to live the rest of his very long, never ending life wandering the mortal realm collceting junk, then that was what his life would forever be like — he didn’t expect any changes or any miracles at this point ; but ah, what a miracle hua cheng had been...
who would have thought that the most feared of the ghost kings, none other than crimson rain sought flower, would have become such a beacon of light in his otherwise bleak life? other heavenly officials might not understand how xie lian could possibly interact so closely with someone of his kind — but what they would also not ever be able to understand was that, in all the centuries that had passed since his last banishment, he was the only one to make him feel truly alive. what good were reputations, anyway? the former crown prince of xian le knew better than to judge people by what other’s would say of them by now.
the ghost city was no place for gods, but such a rule did not apply to xie lian, who was always met with the most enthusiastic greetings he had ever experienced whenever he set foot in crimson rain’s territory. however, he was not one to linger in the presence of other ghosts much — not because he did not care for them ( it was quite the contrary ) but because he had come there with a goal in mind, someone in particular that he wished to see. not all that much time had passed since their last meeting, but after staying so long apart from the ghost king after that fateful day at mount tonglu, it seemed like far too much time for xie lian to bear.
making his way to qiandeng temple with quick steps, he did not bother to knock at the door as he arrived, but walked inside with careful steps as he looked around the room. “ san lang, are you here..? the ghosts said they saw you coming in this direction... ” xie lian spoke into the seemingly empty temple, ruoye vibrating lightly in his wrist at the mere mention of the other’s name.
