Great. Another office christmas party I have to go to, Caroline thought. All they ever do is show off their new boyfriend/girlfriend who they will break up with a week later. Just what I need. I hate my job. I should really start looking for another job.
As Caroline walked in the room, all she could think about was that she would give anything to be at home eating ice cream and watching a movie. It was the same boring people she worked with all day and none of them had any personality what so ever. Although, there was one guy who looked as miserable as she did. Caroline had never seen him before but she couldn’t deny that he was extremely attractive. As she found her seat she kept an eye on him the whole time. As he looked up they briefly made eye contact before Caroline quickly looked away. Great, he saw me checking him out.
As the dinner starts and people start drinking while the food is served, Caroline is dragged into pointless conversations about work and her personal life. Several older men come up to her only to ask if she has a boyfriend at home. Before she even knew if Caroline was telling everyone that her boyfriend was waiting for her at home. She had been through enough of this parties to know that, that would be the only thing to get drunk men off her back for the evening.
As food was being taking away from the table and the music turned louder, almost everyone went up to the dance floor. Caroline looked at her watch. A few more hours and she was free to go. “Having fun yet?” came a voice behind her. She looked around. It was the guy from earlier. Of course he was British. She turned around and looked him in the eye “actually no, getting hit on my a bunch of drunk and gross men who just happens to be my boss’s boss is not quite my idea of fun” she said. He grins. “well then, it’s a good thing I didn’t come over here to hit on you. My name is Klaus” He sits down beside her and hands her his hand. Caroline looked at him with a half smile cause the way he is looking at her says otherwise. She took his hand “hi, I’m Caroline”
They talked for some time while all the others danced to the loud music. Caroline could not deny that she was attracted to Klaus. He was very handsome and his accent just made her want to jump his bones. “do want to get out of here” Klaus says out of the blue.
“I can’t just leave. Besides, I’m not that kind of girl” she quickly says back. This causes Klaus to smirk. “Of course not love. What I meant was, we could sneak into the copy room so we could escape these people.” Caroline looks down embarrassed she initially thought he meant something completely different. She looks around, bits her lip and grabs her glass. “sure, let’s go” she says, and stands up.
They sneak off to the copy room, praying nobody sees them. Klaus sweeps a bottle of champagne. They walking into the room to find it empty. Thank god. If people knew they were in here they would be in so much trouble. Caroline sits down on the floor and Klaus follows her. “so, how come I haven’t seen you around the office before? I’m sure I would have remembered you.” Klaus says. Caroline rolls her eyes. Like she hadn’t heard that line all night. Deciding to play along she responds “oh I guess I’ve been hiding so you wouldn’t find me, no my boss is so strict. I barely have time to see the other part of the building.”
“well, maybe I should make it to your part of the building some time” he returns with a flirty smile. Caroline looks down.
…………..
“We should go out to the rest of the party, they are probably about to leave so this might be the last chance before we’re locked in the building all night” Klaus says. Standing up and handing his hand out to Caroline. She takes his hand and stands up.
“yeah, we should go” she says. She doesn’t want this moment to end. It has actually been a pretty good night being in here with Klaus. For a few seconds they just stare at each other. Trying to make the moment last longer. Klaus looks up and spots the mistletoe and grins. “Well, I guess we have to kiss. Wouldn’t want to go against tradition, now would we?” Her lips are on his before he even knows what is happening. The kiss last for a few minutes. Caroline pulls away first. “merry Christmas Klaus” she says before walking away.
