When Jesper never came back Kaz went right back to Nina's "heretic". He wouldn't loose any more people. Never again. Inej didn't comment as much as he thought she might, just said a quick prayer and followed him into the tent.
She was worried for their missing Crows.
The woman extracted more money than before, sending two cost more. Same assurances as before, no guarantee of a return, no guarantee of living through the flash of light. Kaz wondered for a moment if she had been the one to send Wylan away in the first place. If she was he'd deal with her later. For now he had to find his people.
The light blinded him and he had the uncomfortable need to reach out and grab Inej's hand. A need he pushed down. No need to be sick. When his eyes cleared he found himself standing in the middle of a crowded bar that had suddenly gone quiet. His eyes locked with an older man, clearly in charge, and he set both hands on his cane.
"What business?"
