everyone say 'thank you toast' for feeding us
There's this theme with your work (both in fandom and original) where a villain gets domesticated and treated very well, they get rehabilitated by others' love - in some cases even by the love of their enemies, as is the case in the friendship AU!
I think it's beautiful. You have a very kind worldview
this is such a sweet ask, thank you… i’m glad you like this story, even though i keep accidentally telling it over and over in different ways. i just like when characters are happy and nice to each other, and i love developing friendships, and i love redemption arcs and all the angst/comedy/awkward moments that come with them
and i don’t mean it to be, like, propaganda for the idea of trying to “fix” other people. fixing somebody irl never works. the idea with these stories is the person with the problem has to realize they need to fix THEMSELVES. nobody else can do that for them.
and that realization makes for a fun story, i think. it’s still a kind of punishment in a way, to give an evil character people to worry about and feel guilty for hurting; it gives you more avenues for inflicting emotional turmoil character exploration. making a villain feel guilt for their actions is the best way to both punish and rehabilitate them, i think. because now they have a lot to lose if they don’t shape up, and they have to live with their past wrongdoing while fighting for a better future.
and i love the fantasy of somebody learning to be a better person for the sake of the people they care about. it appeals to me deeply, even though it should NOT be taken as life advice.
