Still can't get my head around Keith ending his life. Yeah, I didn't know him but you know. I suppose you don't really understand how much people impact your life until they aren't around. I am trying to write a post about how he kinda helped get through my own mental health illnesses back when I was a teenager but I don't know it's just so surreal. 😞

The Prodigy - Fat of the Land ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @theprodigyofficial ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m not going to enjoy writing this one but I’ve wanted to since I heard the news of Keith Flint’s passing from suicide. As someone who lost an immediate family member to suicide, I always have to take a step back and fold this type of event into my life slowly. Like so many collectors and likely many of you, The Prodigy (and this album in particular) holds a very special place in my heart. I was barely a teenager when this came out and was fascinated by how a couple of guys from the UK with weird haircuts and face paint could somehow deeply offend the world while also making absolute bangers of electronic tracks that were rougher, bolder, and harder than the mainstream had prepared themselves for. Whether you first noticed Keith’s double side mohawks or Maxim’s crazy contacts and body paint in the music video for Breathe, the seriously problematic and jarring footage in Smack my Bitch Up (a song that still causes conflict in those who love the music but hate the message), or the classically iconic performance that Keith put on in the Firestarter video, many peoples’ first taste of the Prodigy stateside, it was clear that this was not your father’s musical act. I put so much mileage on my CD copy of this album that I eventually had to replace it because it was unplayable due to scratches and I still remember how exciting it was to hear the intro to Breathe come on literally anywhere it got played. It defined the aggressive sound of a very specific moment in time, and so much of that essence was wrapped up in the presence, the musician, the performer, and the artist that was Keith Flint. Keith may be gone from the world as we know it, but the music he helped create will fortunately live on.
