Star Wars: Phasma - Short Review
All in all, it was an enjoyable read. While I did find the dialogue could become repetitive at times, making it feel more dragged out than it needed to be, and the ending felt a bit rushed to deliver a somewhat satisfying conclusion, the story helped in many ways to bolster the mystique and intrigue of the titular character and give an interesting look at what loyalty can mean for different characters.
Speaking of which, the characters themselves are fun to read. The cast are a good blend of variations across the moral spectrum, with Phasma and Cardinal being the most interesting. With the flashbacks of Phasma, you hold hope that she does care about her companions despite her more than obvious lean towards having no morality, and Cardinal’s inner struggles between his unwavering loyalty and new knowledge he gains makes his story somewhat tragic and highlights well the cruelty of the First Order.
In short: the book felt like it was longer than it should’ve been, but the characters and story more than made up for it. 4/5
