Internet, we need to clear something up. Because you're confused wherever I look. That is NOT Ken Babbs spouting "poetry" about the "other coast" during the beginning of Lovelight at Woodstock. Honestly, I don't know who it is, but it ain't Babbs. Babbs in fact can be seen; he's the tall fella in the white pants and he's dancing around the stage a bit, and at one point he seems to be sort of good-naturedly trying to get our third-coast friend away from the mic, as the boys are getting on with their thing, particularly Pigpen. I'm generally loathe to speak on whatever someone may or may not do, but I think we can safely assume that had Babbs been at the mic, the words would've likely been less pseudo-stoned-depth, and more wit, cleverness and general funniness. And I really don't think he be stepping on Pigpen, regardless. Anyway, this is a 38-minute Lovelight. At Woodstock. Though their set was surely troubled, it's better than the Dead (and many others) give it credit for.
