The Ferocious Dog Celtic-Folk-Punk juggernaut continues smashing all others out the way! The band taking Celtic-Punk back into the music cha
I’ve only just come across Ferocious Dog, but as the review above of their latest album, Kleptocracy, makes clear, they have a long history with multiple line up changes with only lead singer Ken Bonsall still in place from the original line-up. This album is a frantic, full-on slice of Celtic folk-rock with left wing lyrics and frequently knock out melodies. Of course the influence of The Pogues and the Dropkicks are loud and clear, but I also hear The Men They Couldn’t Hang, The Levellers and The Oyster Band in the mix too, and possibly even Stiff Little Fingers. The Irish and Welsh-themed songs are played with energy and competence and Kleptocracy has a big fat fiddle-led sound that it’s impossible not to want to jig along to: not bad for a band whose roots are in Nottinghamshire. Quite the discovery…
