The French Upstage Halloween
The french got something right again OR terribly wrong. Either way it doesn't really matter because anything involving free alcohol beats candy-tossing neighbors any day. It seems instead of Halloween being the 'happening' of the month, a drunk marathon conventionally fills its place in the vineyards of Bordeaux. The theme this year is "animals" and with participants having no access to rest rooms for the entire race, the French still decided it a good idea to serve: wine, cheese, and ice cream.
"I’m surrounded by so much animal makeup and sweaty bum tails, it feels like PETA activists broke into the local zoo, poured wine down the animals’ throats, tied sneakers to their paws and hooves, swung the gates wide open, and now these beasts are staggering drunkenly through the vineyards.
Someone has to control these herds, which is why my friend and I are dressed as hunters, complete with bullet belts, safari hats and shirts, aviator shades, bloody claw scratches, and water guns to squirt the bare legs of any runners who dare cut us off or foolishly get between us and a glass of Château Pichon-Longueville."
