Oopsie my hand slipped
first pic inspired by @elfagito ‘s delicious au
Hello!! I’m back!
What are your general thoughts on how magic looks/can be wielded in your au, are there elements/properties/types etc., definitely not asking this for drawing purposes….
if there are vampires, are there other non-human mythological creatures as well? Characters struggling with their inhumanity as a trait >>>
i really like dysfunctional deadbeat detective tilly. Not that relevant but i do.
i promise to never draw kentilly like that post,,… men are most beautiful when they r a little feminine and vice versa…
i too have been thinking why they give off Vibes and i think it might be due to being a neurodivergent couple… idk if tilly is for sure but yea… woaw….
dealer’s choice, whatever’s on your mind <3
1. magic is essentially a breaking of the rules of reality, so it can really look like anything. it's much more impacted by the spellcaster's concept of magic than it is by any strict rules, it's sort of a dreamlike type situation. two people can cast the same spell with all the same components and it can be realized totally differently. lots of spellcasters have ideas of what magic can and can't do, but there really isn't a limit, there's just consequences for more powerful magic. the main spellcasters so far in the au are dom, laurie, holly, ken, and brooke, and their magic all looks completely different than the other's; dom's concept of magic is very much based in an idea of it being an unknowable, corrupting power, so that's how his magic works, laurie practices magic specifically within the context of the greater church of sjafor so his magic is very strict in its rules and very clearly associated with divinity, holly takes to magic in a very intuitive way so her magic tends to be sort of naïvely "fun" (although this is gonna change. eek!), ken's magic is based off of vampiric culture so he really only practices Those Specific Kinds Of Magic, and brooke comes from a culture which uses magic mainly in a violent context, so that's how her magic manifests, even though i think her natural proclivity to magic would be much different.
2. magical creatures or monsters exist only as an effect of magic breaking the rules of reality, so every monster is really just a biological thing that has been transformed by magic, meaning there are often less clear "types" of monsters than in typical fantasy. one other than vampires that i know for sure will be there are lycanthropes (jon is one of course), but there's a huge diversity in what is considered a lycanthrope. jon in particular was cursed rather than "turned," but i haven't really figured out why yet, i just know before that he was a knight of sjafor. and probably fucked it up real bad.
3. yes... Yes... Yes.... get a disco elysium au in here STAT! they honestly kind of are kimharry... if u think about it...
4. i knew you would never betray the gospel. you can actually draw kentilly like that if you make ken the tiny woman
5. #Yeah. something is certainly afoot
6. ok i'm thinking about brooke in my au because im really brookepilled right now and essentially she is some sort of nobility from a different court than most everyone else. haven't figured out all the details. but she and sullivan are betrothed already yaaayyy! anyhow brooke's court is pretty concerned with conquering stuff and other bullshit so brooke has recently and forcefully gained lordship of (the board...) SOME FUCKING THING I HAVENT NAMED YET IDK. so there's drama and intrigue with that. she's also openly a magic user without it being through sjafor or passajer which is very controversial but she's pretty scary so most people are just quietly scheming against her. anyhow at some point she is killed in a coup situation, not sure how that works out, but she's beheaded and it's really quite terrible. i have this visual of sullivan dragging her body to dom in this desperate plea for him to bring her back to life (because he obviously can't go to the church for that as they wanted her dead in the first place) and also because she was specifically beheaded to prevent proper revival. dom is a bit of an asshole about it because that's the kind of guy he is but he of course ends up trying to and it works it just. ya know. it doesn't go Great. and now brooke is back as a weird ghoul thing and it's freaking awesome. i mean probably harrowing for the actual characters in the story but i think it's awesome. not sure what goes on with her after that though!
I’ve been thinking about lover’s eye a lot
My kentillies!!!!
drops more lighting practice & runs. A Stab in The Dark AU you will always be special to me
stills under the cut!
more vampire assassin shenanigans from @elfagito ‘s au…
what are your specific thoughts on kentilly vampire bullshit? also your header being ken as the leech and tilly as the evil bounty hunter is so on the nose for vampire/assassin stuff... serendipitous!
Yesss ok!! Funny you noticed that because that episode has informed a lot about how i perceive kentilly (as you mentioned theyre not very open about it, that was the one that made me go huh… wait…) and thus it informs some of my thoughts on vampire!kentilly as well!
How i see the interaction in the episode goes something like: new guy comes to town, once they start dating tilly has to hide her evilness and the fact that she leaves for jobs in the middle of the night, which is fine bc ken has his exorcising duties then as well. Ken probably knows something is off about this town & his girlfriend but it lowkey intrigues him. He’s summoned for a particular job by laurie and ends up being infested with the leech. The same night tilly tracks down her target laurie but sees ken killing him instead. Yippee they’re both evil. But then. Tilly’s partner oli ends up killing ken’s host, etc. angst ensues.
of course there’s not a lot of crossover with the vampire au, but i think some parts of it as interesting to consider. for instance at first tilly might be hiding her vampire-ness due to general confusion and anger that her powers aren’t working and needing some time to process. And so at first ken might just be humoring her attacks, but then when she somehow lets slip that she’s a vampire too, he’s suddenly like oh i can work with this. I also think when he’s first offering to teach her stuff tilly hears it as mocking but it’s actually very genuine
but the most interesting part of the episode to me is this
In the last panel she says: confidence, ken, it’s going to be great! we’re going to win this!
Here ken is jokingly grumping about being the demon (in a very tilly way i might add) and tilly is actually being very jolly and optimistic.
so i’m not sure exactly what being an ancient vampire entails, but i would assume it comes with some form of political responsibility/something adjacent to paperwork which ken really dislikes. And tilly will cheer him up with pranks on other royalty/similarly whimsical activities
I also wholeheartedly believe tilly would be an amazing assassin, meaning this would be her only? Or one of a few? Failed jobs. I think it gets more interesting when you consider who hired the hit in the first place, and what the repercussions of not completing the job are. There’s a possibility to me that it’s one of tilly’s close friends, or even one of ken and tilly’s mutual friends (dom seems likely, for example) and they did it to take out a large power but are relatively happy for tilly now.
or even possibly that ken hired it himself, either to create a narrative & frame someone, draw attention away from something else, or some other play, and that it was always designed to fail which explains why he was so prepared for it. In botc he’s a such a lethal minion because he’s so good at making himself the target, so it’d be interesting to see how that applies here..
i’d also theorize about weapons & general vampire weaknesses (can they genuinely be killed?) but this post is getting too long already haha, i could talk about this all day
As a treat for listening to me ramble, have my a stab in the dark kentilly animatic
