The ‘Star Wars’ and Marvel Universes Collide in ‘Hope Assembles’ Comic Series
‘Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles,’ the first-ever crossover between the Star Wars and Marvel Comics universes, launches in January 2027
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the George Lucas classic Star Wars, Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics are releasing Hope Assembles, a five-issue Marvel meets Star Wars crossover five decades in the making, written by Kevin Smith with art by David Marquez.
This is the first time the characters from these two iconic universes are going to meet, and writer and director Kevin Smith describes himself as lucky enough to get the call to script all five epic issues, working with Marquez.
In Hope Assembles, the Avengers, Spider-Man, and more team up with the iconic Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca, while Doctor Doom will ally himself with the likes of Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire.
In 1977, the original Star Wars film reshaped pop culture for decades to come, being referenced in everything from music to film – including the pages of Marvel Comics. With the Marvel Universe being the “World Outside Your Window,” the Star Wars franchise firmly exists on Earth-616. But in Hope Assembles, what could have been a narrative challenge quickly transforms into a one-of-a-kind crossover where the heroes of the Marvel Universe see the events of A New Hope unfold on Earth before their very eyes after a reality-shattering spell.
Hope Assembles marks a new chapter in the decades-long relationship between Marvel and Star Wars. The American publisher of Fantastic Four and Spider-Man has published Star Wars comics as far back as 1977 – the year A New Hope hit cinemas worldwide. But now, in 2027, those two worlds will finally collide on the page for the first time.

Shooting silly cinematic stuff for money since his first film, Clerks, in 1994, Kevin Smith recorded his first podcast in 2007, the award-winning SModcast (with friend and producer Scott Mosier). He has spent all his time since then capturing hours of aural with his funny friends, either at home or on stages around the world.
David Marquez is a New York Times bestselling and Eisner-nominated comic book artist known for his detailed and dynamic drawing style. Over the past fifteen years David has worked on the most popular comics across the industry including Miles Morales, Batman, The X-Men, Superman, The Avengers, and The Justice League, and on the 2024 relaunch of Uncanny X-Men at Marvel Comics. He launched his first creator-owned comic series, The Unchosen, which he is both drawing and writing, last year, and also made his writing debut at Marvel with the series Sinister’s Six.
Kevin Smith himself has enthused about the project on Facebook, promising more teases on the next episodes of his podcasts, Jay & Silent Bob Are In The Hizzouse and Fat Man Beyond.
“Back in the early 1980s, I had a subscription to Marvel’s Star Wars comics,” he explained in the official announcement. “And as fun as it was to follow the continuing adventures of Luke, Leia and Han, I always wished that Spider-Man or Doctor Doom could cross over into their cinematic saga. So when the opportunity arose to actually tell that story, nobody had to Force my hand!
