STRICTLY 4 THE SCYTHE

On today's episode of who GAF and nobody asked: STRICTLY 4 THE SCYTHE just dropped.

The Scythe is a group made by Denzel Curry, Tia Corine, A$AP Ferg, Bktherula and Key Nyata and today they dropped their debut Strictly 4 The Scythe. I've been listening to a lot of Denzel's most recent album King Of The Mischievous South last year. After the conscious twist of 2022s Melt My Eyez See Your Future KOTMS was a modern take on the southern hip hop that Denzel started his career with.

KOTMS and Strictly 4 The Scythe feel like two sides of the same coin as all members of The Scythe are featured on the album which came out shortly before The Scythe's formation was announced. S4TS also features a guest appearance from Lazer Dim 700 who also had a guest appearance on KOTMS's STILL IN DA PAINT which interpolates Wocka Flocka Flame's Hard In Da Paint as well as guest appearances from Smino, 1900Rugrat, Juicy J, 454, Luh Tyler and Sadboi.

The Memphis/Miami/Houston rap inspired sound is very abrasive, braggadocious and in your face with tons of catchy repeatable choruses but can also be laid back at times. Strictly 4 The Scythe is a very enjoyable album that truly feels like a labor of love and friendship. Every member's personality manages to shine through in their respective verses which is punctuated by how different every member's respective voice and style is.

It's hard to pick out standouts as the 8 tracks of the 29 minute long album are very consistent in terms of quality. So far my favorite tracks are the opener THE SCYTHE as well as HOOPTY and LIT EFFECT.
