Tellius Pride Headcanon #9

It’s none other than Crimean Royal Knight Fifth Platoon Captain Kieran! I mean, this guy is Flamboyant with a capital F.

His obsession with Oscar as his rival is, in fact, his strange way of rationalizing his huge gay crush on the other man. Because Kieran is not a particularly self-aware guy, he struggles to understand his own feelings, and he isn’t alone. The royal knights tend to not be the most emotionally intelligent bunch, so few people clock his feelings for Oscar.

That being said, Crimea (especially Crimea’s capital) tends to be the most progressive beorc nation, including attitudes towards same-sex relationships. It’s not perfect by any means, more of a don’t-ask-don’t-tell culture, but it’s certainly less outright hateful like Daein and Begnion. The few royal knights that suspect that Kieran’s feelings towards Oscar are romantic in nature keep their suspicions to themselves. Very much a “not my circus, not my monkeys” mindset.

Lucia and Geoffrey are two such individuals. As long as Kieran’s one-sided rivalry with Oscar doesn’t interfere with his ability to do his job, they are content to just let him figure things out on his own time.

Honestly, I think Oscar figures it out before Kieran does. At first, he tries to tell himself he’s imagining things, but the evidence quickly becomes impossible to ignore. Especially when Kieran starts comparing their body types, muscle mass, limberness, ect.

Luckily for Kieran, Oscar is a very patient man, and he’s willing to wait for Kieran’s inevitable gay awakening.

As flamboyant as he is, I think people he’s known since childhood are not at all surprised when he turns out to be gay. Kieran, who previously believed he was much too devoted to the nation of Crimea to fall in love with anyone else, is far more shocked by this revelation.

Even after sorting himself out, the hyper-competitiveness on Kieran’s end never goes away completely. He’s just more self-aware about why he fixates on Oscar specifically, and even uses competition as a means of flirting. Oscar tries not to find it as endearing as he does, and fails.
