Kill Chambers
The first request that I’ve been suggested, that I can actually do a glowing review for is from close personal friend and guitarist/vocalist for Kill Chambers Conor Mcnulty.
So reviewing KC might take a while. I first saw them in 2010 supporting Trigger the Bloodshed at Facebar. 5 years down the line all 5 members are now some of my closest and most loved friends... Apart from Dovey who is an utter bellend and I have no time for the boy. It’s gonna sound lame but without Kill Chambers/the Chamber Maids and the Kill Chambers army (BIG UP) I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
I was a dorky 16 year old with long hair and a lot of Iron Maiden t-shirts and I thought metal was the be all and end all of all music. I was your stereo typical greebo and loved it. When I first saw Kill Chambers I thought they were the bees fucking knees because ya know they had guitars and some guy with a floppy mohawk yelled into a microphone.
Many shows/festivals/house parties/Windsor stabs/Dovestocks/other bands later and now I’m a 22 year old with long hair and no Iron Maiden tee’s but I still think Kill Chambers are one of the best bands ever. Also out of all of my friends bands they are the only one who ever got signed and actually produced an album.
I can’t be arsed to review The Walk to Extinction because this is already becoming a long review and I haven’t even reviewed anything yet but just know this. Wolf is the most solid track you will ever hear. 8 THUMBS UP.
Now to the important bit ‘The Reckoning’. The debut and only (</3) Kill Chambers long play album. Now the first time I heard this was in the car on the way to Sonisphere 2011 with Conor and Lauren and it was the best thing ever. Listening to an album that I knew my friends wrote and recorded was so awesome. Also knowing most of the songs already from hearing them live about 19,000,000 times made it all the cooler.
My personal fave tracks are ‘Together we fade’ and ‘Wounds’ because I am an avid fan of screamed verses with clean choruses because it just works. Also because some European reviewer/greebo commented on them by saying ‘I would like Kill chambers if there was no faggy singing’ which is possibly the funniest thing I have ever read.
Either way the album is filled to the brim with fan favourites such as a 93, Archangel and My Warpath. May the chants of ‘I’VE HAD ENOUGH..’ echo in the halls of Facebar for eternity,
I might be biased as I am the person who has listened to the album most on the planet (I know I’ve checked) but there is not point in my life where hearing the opening chords to ‘Wounds’ hasn’t instantly made me the happiest person alive. I genuinely rate it as one of my top albums of all time because of all the memories and nostalgia, I give ‘the Reckoning’ 666 thumbs up and would give anything for one last KC show.
Overall I rate Kill Chambers as a solid 10 thumbs up as my best friends, one of my favourite bands and most importantly one of the most defining moments of my teenage years, Srsly though COME BACK SHOW?!
