Madara actually tried to learn to heal early on, when he was 16-ish. It did not end well for him. All his life, he’s been able to pick up the shinobi arts without much trouble -- genjutsu? On lock. Ninjutsu? Not even trying. Taijutsu? Cakewalk. But iryo-ninjutsu has always eluded him, much to his private frustration. He just... can’t figure out how to do it. How to get his mind in the right place to mold and control healing chakra, how to think of the body as something to fix rather than something to hurt.
Eventually, he gives up on it past his twenties. Since his failure, Madara has always quietly admired and envied healers. But on a more personal, grimmer note, when he’s in a bad headspace, his inability to heal confirms one of his personal suspicions about himself: he is only capable of destruction.
