Thank you to everyone that posted on my page, sent text messages, sang happy birthday on a virtual job meeting (destroyed my eardrums 😀) and just did something to acknowledge another year I have been blessed to walk on this earth. Life is not promised. While I was being grateful for another year of life a brother that I came up with in Islam lost his (see my previous post). While, I was celebrating another year of life last year George Floyd was being murdered at the hands of a racist police officer. So while May 25th means so much to me and commemorates my Bornday, the day I released my second book and the day I rereleased my first book, it also serves as a reminder that life is not to be taken for granted. We can literally be here today and gone tomorrow. We often say give people their flowers/roses while they are alive; to me social media and other outlets allows people the opportunity to openly acknowledge one another if only for a moment, a small second or just send something thoughtful while they are here. One of the greatest gifts you can give to someone is an acknowledgement, just to let them know for that small moment they were thought of. You all have shown me that. I received my roses this week. I sincerely appreciate that. To everyone in Western New York (Niagara Falls, Buffalo, Rochester and surrounding areas) come join me this Friday as I discuss my latest book Systemic Racism: An American Poetic Analysis (details on flyer below). This will be my official “Birthday/Bornday celebration” and I’d love to see you all. I love and appreciate all of you for acknowledging me.
