Ferociously rockin', fuzztone cover of the post-apocalyptic Bill Haley tune. Lead singer Kim Brown really brings it. These Renegades were originally from Birmingham, but had more success on the continent. The video below is kinda goody but worth a watch.

Do you have theories about what happened to Kim? For a minor character, I still wonder what happened to her. She just up and disappeared.

Ya know.... at this point I would just stop going after her character? Let it go. She got dumped, and there is nothing deep about it. I could imagine she just went with the guy she was cheating James with, tbh. Even showrunners don’t care about her character... It was 3 seasons and 3 showrunners ago and there is nothing deep about it in my honest opinion.

I got an question did James ever broke up with Kim

yes he definitely broke up with kim.. i have to like rewatch s1 to answer this accurately which i haven’t yet. i do know a proper break up scene was filmed but was cut for some reason. in my opinion sometime between 1x11 and 1x12 after james’ mess was settled and they left the trailer he never actually saw kim again after that (just like we never saw her again). the scene in the trailer was so awkward and kim had clearly had enough of living like that after their fight earlier on.. so yeah i think it’s just implied they broke up after that i guess. kinda wish they kept the scene but can’t have everything. if it was ever mentioned after i honestly cannot remember it.

No problem! I definitely think that’s the more interesting angle to examine her character from, rather than shipping or whatever: class and race. Which I think the show supports to a degree. The writers introduce her to us by having her sitting at home diamond ring shopping on the home shopping network. When she takes Teresa upstairs she proceeds to preen about all of her expensive clothes that James has bought for her (”I have more dresses than I can say grace over”/”He spoils me, not gonna lie”). When she and Teresa come downstairs she tells James not to make Teresa run in her heels or he’ll have to buy her another pair. 

Teresa is a mule. Kim, the girlfriend of a drug trafficker, is not ignorant of how this works. I live in Texas and we’ve had thousands of drug trials (cartels have really been doing damage) and I’ve seen thousands of girlfriends-of in interviews. They tend to be white upper middle class women who know the dangers of trafficking and don’t care because they don’t take the risks. They get the money and the things money can buy. But they know what mules are, or more importantly who mules are. Primarily young women trafficked out of Mexico who have to swallow coke or be killed. They are vulnerable, in danger of being caught by cops, of being caught by ICE, of being shot by rival dealers. Kim doesn’t just happen to bring up Teresa running. Mules have to run; run to avoid being shot, arrested, to beat the clock on their stomach acid rupturing the baggies. It’s a comment that is, at best, tone deaf. Kim, the college-educated upper middle class white American girlfriend, doesn’t have to run because Teresa, born in the slums of Sinaloa and forced to work for the cartel, will do it for her.

Then “the oil guy.” Oil guys and drug traffickers have one thing in common: money. Money is what you get for being involved with drug trafficking, it’s how you buy diamond rings, more couture dresses than you can say grace over, and a house on a lake in one of America’s most expensive cities. Money, and the privileges of class and race, is present in most of her conversations. So I do think that while she cared for James - I think the show credibly conveyed that - I think there was a desire for social and economic advancement and James was her way of achieving that. Kim is Kellyanne with awareness; Kellyanne is a college-educated white American woman who gave up her career to, as she put it, “live the dream” in a huge house with walk-in closets. Only she didn’t know how her husband was making all that money. Kim did and while she didn’t want her boyfriend to get killed, she also didn’t want the mule to damage her shoes.

Personally it’s an angle I approve of because I feel like you can’t really explore the effects of drug trafficking, especially for a Mexican woman living in America, without acknowledging the roles played by race, nationality, and class. I hope we see more of that.
