Denuclearisation - Is Trump or Kim the Winner?
On 12th June, 2018 the world witnessed the meeting between two very distinct leaders – Donald Trump, President of the United States & Kim Jong Un, Supreme Leader of North Korea. This was the first time that the sitting heads of state of these two nations were meeting which displays an intention of resolution.
After signing a historic pact with North Korea's Kim Jong Un on denuclearising the Korean peninsula, US president Donald Trump has said that the previously imposed sanctions will be lifted.
It was interesting to watch how these two leaders from varying cultures communicated during the summit and finally the end goal of denuclearisation was achieved amidst langauge barriers, cultural differences, maturity variances and discrepancies in background. The conversations on social media between these leaders were unpleasant and brash. It did not seem that there would be a middle ground for this issue for these leaders. However, we hope that their commitment to the well being of their citizens has superceded their own egotistical needs.
This is a wonderful example that we use for Communication Skills Training – that intention overpowers words.
This incident provides a profound example for Cross Cultural Training – that two leaders from very different cultures and beliefs were able to agree on an issue that would have had a critical impact on humanity.
Finally, this incident provides a significant example for Leadership Training – two very dominant leaders working together on an issue that would change the future of mankind!
