2015 King Mojave Challenge!
Many of us make resolutions each new year. They're usually resolutions to lose weight, to quit smoking, or quit drinking, or start going to church. In the past I usually focus my resolutions around these five themes: Making changes to 1) my physical self, 2) my financial self, 3) my mental self, 4) my emotional self, and 5) my spiritual self. However this year the change I want to make is to the entire resolution idea. Instead, I want to do a New Year Challenge.
I'm going to embark on at least ten challenges with friends and colleagues to help me focus on my own personal growth this year. The idea is to do things that can be relatively easy to incorporate into everyday life. Having a partner to participate should provide a system of motivation, coaching, and encouragement, so that both partners can be successful by the end of the year. I'm still working to fill out my minimum of ten but this is what I have so far, each challenge designed to grow me as a person:
1) Play tennis weekly (with Greg) - I've never really played tennis but I've always liked watching it. This is the year I'll learn to play and I have a friend who wants to learn as well. Together we will push each other to get better.
2) I will cook more meals from my cultural background (Portuguese) while my friend Victoria will cook meals from her cultural background (Vietnamese). At the end of the year for Christmas we will each exchange the recipes we've cooked throughout the year in our own personal cookbooks.
3) My friend Chris wants to learn how to play the keyboard, so we will be selecting a song later this week and our mission for this year is to learn to play this song.
4) I will learn and practice a martial art (with Andrew) - the style has yet to be determined.
5) I will buy a composition notebook and write at least weekly in the form of a journal entry. At the end of the year for Christmas my friend Jason (who will be writing his own year long journal) and I will exchange our notebooks.
6) In 2014 I removed processed foods and grain based foods from my diet. Of course I wasn't perfect, but even the slightest change made a huge difference in my physical performance and physique. This year I will be cutting as much dairy out of my diet as I can while Danny will partner with me to cut out processed and fast foods from his diet.
7) To learn Salsa dancing with Stephanie and Gregory
I have at least three more challenges for 2015 I am looking to embark on. If any of our followers are interested in partnering up for something they want to do in their life, let me know and we will start right away. Three particular challenges I am looking for partners are:
1) To become conversational in with Portuguese or Spanish.
2) 2 - 3 week vacation traveling through Europe or through the United States.
3) Practice yoga on the regular
Having said all that... I challenge each of you to find partners and embark on adventures in your own lives. Together, with the support of those close to us, we can overcome any challenge, and conquer any goal that is in our path.
