New to Me Games: King of 12
King of 12! A game of limited dice rolls, tons of card effects, and cancelling out like numbers at every opportunity (if you’re lucky)! You roll a die, you use card effects to change the die’s value, and you try to score points by being the highest (or sometimes lowest) value out there—but watch out for your opponents trying to do the same!
I played this one three times at two and still need to play it at higher player counts—three or four—to see just how chaotic the canceling out of card effects and points truly gets.
In the games I played, there was only really ever one match where points and card cancelling got chaotic—and interesting. Two rounds in a row were cancelled out because of our matching points lol, which lengthened the game considerably.
I have the feeling two isn’t the most optimal player count for this game, but it was still an enjoyable experience to play—it was casual, light, and easy to talk during!
I’m certainly interested in playing this one again.
I’ve realized I forgot to talk about getting King of 12—it arrived earlier in the month and even came with some cool promo cards I didn’t expect to get, so that was nice :]
I bought it during a good sale from the publisher a little while back. Like, it was a really good deal let me tell you, and I only bring it up now because… well… I got to play it today with a friend! I’m curious how this plays at three and four players though… will get back to you on that one!!
Games On My Radar 2: Electric Boogaloo!!
Back at it again with some games that I’d love to have!! Or play. Either works 😂😂😂
Campy Creatures (+ Expansion)
Another game by the company that did Space Park and Control, which automatically piques my interest. I’m interested especially because of the artwork—Keymaster Games has a fantastic track record when it comes to creating quality artwork as far as I can tell. Throwing campy horror movies into the mix? Yes, please!!
King of 12
Card games with dice intrigue me—and this one has twelve sided dice, my beloveds!! One of the most fun kinds of dice imo. I like the idea of card effects affecting the value of dice rolls. The cancelling out of results if they’re the same, too. Really, the entire thing sounds like my kind of filler game—and filler games are a genre I really like :]
Aurum
Trick-taking gameplay intrigues me!! My only drawback would be the player count—I don’t often play 3-4 players irl, so if I had this one, I wouldn’t be pulling it out often, save for special occasion gatherings maybe.
I love the alchemy theme though!! And the card designs are delightful. I’m very, very tempted to pick it up for that reason alone, just to have it!
Martian Fluxx
Wouldn’t a Martian themed gaming night be so fun? Martian Dice, Martian Fluxx, Martian Chess? It’s a bit of a dream of mine now—a little dream, but a dream all the same. Maybe some day.
Otherwise, Martian Fluxx’s theme is what interests me—it would be interesting to play a version of Fluxx where everyone’s playing as Martians against Humans!
Orion Duel
I’m interested in this one because of BGA—it feels like a flight of fancy at the moment, but I figured I’d include it because the game is just so intriguing. It’s got a nice space theme and multiple ways to win. I’m definitely going to be playing it more on BGA. When it comes out irl? Well, maybe I’ll check it out that way, too.
For now, it’s joining the other abstract games like Qawale and Homeworlds that I want to play more of on BGA. This might be a new era for me 😂😂💕
