I'm half an hour into the Eragon movie and the amount of psychic damage I've received is off the charts...

Finished book two of the Eragon series and like... why isn't the Disney show going to be animated? All I can think is how much more practical &smoother it would be to convey certain things in animation that wouldn't hit the same in live action. I can't say for sure that the live action show will be bad of course, but it's disappointing thinking of what could've been.

Random vaguely spoilery thoughts on book 2 while I'm at it.

Like 20% of the book is the main characters telling each other they are being stupid (They are both right)

I know this is a children's book but a really prominent character is removed from the plot in such a way that It's near impossible not to guess how that character will come back later.

It also pulls a really shocking swerve that's impossible to guess beforehand but tracks with all the information given up to that point, so GG

Without going into specifics a really big plot element is legitimate spoiled immediately, but the revealed spoiler itself is covering a secret second thing

There's a fairly long conversation where we find out that Elves are typically atheist and don't believe in any higher power, a concept completely foreign to Eragon since his town had religion which is fine world building in itself, but from what I remember there was maybe one other mention of a religion/belief system between two books up to that point and it wasn't even in Eragon's town so it's like... why are we talking about this first?

Deviantart protecting users from AI scraping is legitimately the least believable scam I've ever seen on the platform.

I've had a absolute terrible time motivating myself to tackle my to-do list all day and when I finally started I finished my first task in like twenty minutes. Just do the thing guys, it's so much easier.

A couple of days ago I had an idea for my story that had the biggest ripple effect I've ever had for my writing in that:

It solidified the reasons two of my main characters act the way they do + gives them stronger motivations

Rounds out the setting in the way that gives it more depth and intrigue

Near instantly gave depth to a character that only existed as a concept before

Gives me a reason to add a specific character into the story later if time allows

All from ONE idea. There's still a couple things I have to adjust and figure out with this idea but I'm like Jimmy Neutron Brain Blast right now man, the fingers are flying and words and ideas are pouring out and I'm having a stupid amount of fun.

Somewhere around 2003 I made a character that's sat in the back of my head ever since - I always wanted to make a story with him and I'd dream of little scenarios to put him though, draw him here and there, but never worked on it super seriously.

In 2021 I made a document where I started putting every idea I'd had for that potential story and started seeing if I could make heads or tails of everything, started doing some world building but really not having any idea where things were going. In 2022 I had a mild breakthrough that helped give the story shape, and I was able to start figuring out the story in characters proper not too long after that,

All that to say that last night I finally, finally finished the worlds okayest first draft of this thing. Starting from zero with new characters in a new world really makes me appreciate how I well my Lesser Than Three characters after all this time, because what a long process this ended up being, haha. It's messy, and there are a couple of places where I just settled on 'and then THIS happens' for now, but it's enough of a foundation to build upon.

I'm not sure how long it will take to refine things but I'm glad to finally have gotten to this point even. It's a story I might be able to expand on later, but even if it just ends up as a one-shot I'll be pretty darn happy to finally see this realized.

Discovered some new quirks about my characters recently and it's just like... look at you, being your own l'il person... This must be what it's like having children except much less so.

Been listening to the Eragon audio books, the story is fine for what is definitely a teen's first published work but the transition between books 1 and 2 is so jarring it feels like one longer book was cut in half. The first book ends really abruptly without really winding down at all and the next book starts so quickly that there's a rather prominent character death not even 10 minutes in. Never had quite so much whiplash with a story like that.
