It was nice to see the boy he had promised to protect as a returned favour all those years ago smile as bright as the sun setting in the sky. Ventus wished there was more he could do for Sora, like bring him back and make sure no one hurt him so he could go back to his friends safe and sound, but… if Ventus had such an ability, he would have tried to do it to himself years ago so he could see Terra and Aqua… just one last time to make sure they were okay.
Unfortunately for the both of them, however, Ventus didn’t have the skills to do that; and the best he could do for Sora was to try and keep him happy, so his heart wouldn’t be lured in by the darkness. He was sure Xehanort was counting on Sora’s emotional betrayal, but he wasn’t going to let it happen. Sora had protected him twice without hesitation, and now it was Ventus’ turn to protect him.
Even if it meant keeping him here in this permanent sunset to make sure he was happy.
A laugh left the blond’s lips as Sora splashed him with some more water, earning a little victory cry from Ventus as he dared to return the splash with a sweep of his hand against the cool touch of the ocean. Honestly, it was rather nice playing with kids of his own age… sort of. His comatose state made his age a bit difficult to explain, but his personality still matched his fourteen-year-old self. Terra and Aqua were still his best friends for sure! No one could ever replace them! It was just… fun hanging out with a kid like him.
“Haha! Man, if you think this is fun, you should see Riku’s cannonballs off the dock!”
“Really?” Ventus grinned, his bright blue eyes as sparkly as ever when he was excited. “That sounds so cool! I wanna see it sometime!” And just as he was ready to throw another big splash in Sora’s direction, Ventus was met with a sight he was hoping he would never have to see…
Sora losing hope.
“Hey hey…” Ventus frowned, moving through the ocean to stand closer to his friend. “Don’t say that. C’mon…! They’re your best friends, aren’t they?” He asked, a small smile soon appearing on his face as he placed a hand on Sora’s shoulder, giving it a gentle and reassuring squeeze. “Best friends are always connected to each other, no matter what life throws at them! I’m sure you’ll see ‘em again before you know it!”
