Crystal could just keep on walking. She could just move forward, forget about seeing the cat and its big, pitiful golden eyes and the fact that it seems stuck without knowing how to get itself out- a feeling that she knows all too well.
The fact of the matter is that Crystal Palace knows what it’s like to be abandoned. She knows what it’s like to hiss and claw and wreck the world in pursuit of something that can maybe, just maybe, fill the hole in your heart. She knows what it’s like to be so scared and so empty that lashing out is the only thing that can possibly come close to fulfilling you the way that you want to feel something. She knows what it’s like to be small in a world that seems intent on making you feel smaller.
And she doesn’t want to leave this cat to feel the same thing as her.
“I'm supposed to be a bitch, not a hero,” she grumbles, and yet, here she is, yanking off her heels and tying her hair back with her one emergency scrunchie- bless that girl at that one college party that Crystal probably (definitely) shouldn’t have been at for teaching her that trick- and climbing up a tree to pull down a cat.
