Hello! We've recently found ourselves with a lone rescue sugar glider and we worry that we aren't providing the best life possible for her. Any tips the community can provide? Mainly, she isn't a fan of hanging out with us and we worry she's lonely and under enriched. Thank you, as always, for all the great info!

I believe sugar gliders are social and need friends, you might want to look into getting her a buddy. Otherwise, make sure she’s got plenty of vertical space in her cage, with lots of things to climb on and in. They’re nocturnal, though, so it could always be a case of you just not seeing her explore and enjoy her surroundings.

My 3.5 gallon heated beta tank seems to have come down with a case of nematode worms. Is there anything I can do to get rid of them? Are they harmful to the beta? I have a few snails as well, could they have introduced the worms?

Alright, so admittedly, I’m not much of a fish person. I know basic care and what makes up a decent tank, but parasites aren’t really in my knowledge base. I believe the worms you’re talking about are harmless, but don’t quote me. As for how to get rid of them or if your snails introduced them, I’m really not sure, so I’m going to turn this over to fishblr and see if my followers can help you out :)

Hi! I've got everything I need to put together a C&C enclosure for my piggies, except for the bottom part. What are folks using? Where are they getting the materials? Thanks!

I’ve seen corrugated plastic used before, and I’ve also seen tile and linoleum used before, too. I’m sure there are other options, but I suspect these two are probably popular because they’re fairly cheap and are water proof, so they’d stand up to urine well.

Other ideas are welcome, though

I'm considering setting up a sorority of female betta. If I go for a 20 gallon tank, how many females would that comfortably house? Any suggestions for set up? Any recommendations for fishblr blogs to follow/ask advice from as well? Thanks!

I guess it depends on who you ask. There’s a lot of debate on this topic. From what I understand, female captive bred bettas are just as solitary as males and sorority tanks put unnecessary stress on them. I’m told that wild bettas can be housed together though, if you can find them for sale, but should avoid housing pet store type bettas together. There’s a lot of various schooling fish that could comfortably and safely be housed in a tank that size, though, so whether or not a sorority tank can be forced, I’m not sure I really see the point of putting the animals in that position.

But I don’t have any personal experience. So, of course, anyone with betta and betta sorority experience is more than welcome to comment! And, as always, no matter your opinion, research, or experience, please keep comments respectful and polite.

I'm considering getting a dwarf hamster. Any suggestions for enclosure/habitat? DIY or otherwise?

The easiest is probably an appropriately sized, glass tank, but a lot of people convert the Ikea Detolf into an enclosure, and plastic totes can be used if done correctly. These aren’t the only, options of course, but some of the more popular methods. There’s a bunch of great ideas in our hamster tag :)
