“I think I kind of did, actually.” Noctis didn’t quite argue. He gave the matter the same little shrug of almost-indifference as he did most things; except this one had truly been a bigger deal. If he hadn’t grabbed the first thing within reach, which had been one of Ignis’ very fancy, very expensive chef knives, then said knife wouldn’t have wound up embedded in a wyvern attempting a surprise attack after dinner and gotten warped all to hell between the beast’s tough skin and the searing heat of molten rock as it fell backward. There just hadn’t been time to get it, before...
Well. While they pooled their money for the most part, Noctis had managed a few little things. Mostly gathering a few extra bits here and there, trading and selling at shops while little attention was being paid until finally he’d been able to afford a decent replacement knife in Lestallum. Gift-boxed, even, hidden in the Armiger until Prompto and Gladio were otherwise occupied.
It had been kind of a dumb plan. Totally unnecessary, according to Ignis himself, but he’d disagreed. Then betrayed his own attempted nonchalance by glancing over and asking, “It’s okay, then?”
