"Revitalized" - Kinzhylla - One-Shot

Summary: Kinzie & Hylla take a day out together into the woods. Written for @sapphic-summer-riodanverse-2021 !!

Notes: Again I haven't done that much editing so if you see any mistakes no you don't <3

TW: Very slight food mention at the end.

Kinzie crosses her arms as she stares at Hylla. “Are you ever going to get off that phone, or will I need to pry it from your dead body?”

Hylla, hunched over in her seat by the campfire, tilts her dark eyes up to her girlfriend for a fraction of a second before turning back to her mobile. An exasperated sigh escapes through her lips as she leans back and rubs a hand over her face.

“I’m sorry,” she says, exhaustion infecting her words. “It’s just… I’m nervous that something bad is going to happen at the headquarters and we won’t be there to help.”

Kinzie’s eyebrows scrunch together as she gazes at her girlfriend. She leans over to touch Hylla’s arm and squeezes softly, hoping to pump her comfort into the other girl’s skin. “Hey,” she says, “it’ll be fine. They’re strong people. They can do without their leader for a little bit.”

Hylla nods to the beat of Kinzie’s words, but still her fingers don’t escape the hold of the phone; in fact, it seems her hands tremble as they grip tighter onto the device.

A pang of betrayal pierces through Kinzie’s heart, and her hold on her girlfriend goes slack. She offers a pointed look to Hylla, one filled with pain and exasperation. “Hylla,” she says, “you promised you’d take a break for a few days. We came out here because you’ve been so stressed.” Kinzie leans in again and forces herself into the other girl’s vision, blocking Hylla’s gaze from her phone. “You deserve a break, my love. I don’t want you worrying on a trip that was meant to make you relaxed.”

Hylla’s heartbeat quickens its pace as she gazes at Kinzie; her brown eyes glimmer underneath the golden sun, and her features tremble with concern.

Even when she’s worried, she looks beautiful.

Another sigh slips past the cages of Hylla’s lips and she nods, but this time in defeat. With hesitance, Hylla holds out her palm to Kinzie; the screen of the phone flashes in the sunlight for a second before Kinzie steals it out of Hylla’s fingers. Almost immediately, a great burden has been lifted from Hylla’s shoulders; in place of the cold metallic device, a new airy warmth fills into her palm and her body dissolves into the comforting breeze of the woods around her.

A small smile peeps up along Hylla’s lips. She slips her now-empty hand into Kinzie’s and leans her head against her girlfriend’s. Kinzie’s hair whispers against her cheeks and forehead, but Hylla doesn’t mind; she’s molding herself into her girlfriend, finding refuge from the stressful life around her.

When she speaks, her voice tickles Kinzie’s ear. “Thank you,” Hylla whispers. A soft, grateful warmth threads itself into her voice and illuminates Kinzie from within. “Thank you for taking me out, my love. I really did need it.”

Kinzie’s lips quirk into a smile. Instead of saying anything, she leans in and kisses Hylla - just a quick kiss, but this act of passion is just as exhilarating and world-changing as every other kiss the girls have shared. It sends a spark of anticipation down Kinzie’s spine and she finds herself electrified - revitalized - by Hylla.

“You’re welcome,” she whispers against Hylla’s lips, smiling. “I love you.”

Laughter tumbles out of Hylla as she reaches behind her. After a few seconds of fiddling around, she emerges with a bag of white marshmallows. Her face dances with a grin, infectious enough that one even appears on Kinzie’s lips.

“Let’s see if you still love me after I finish all of these and don’t leave you any,” Hylla challenges, already tearing her way through the bag.

Kinzie laughs. “Oh, it’s on!”

Hylla: She just wants to talk about her feelings and… I’m not good at that

[Flashback]

Kinzie *crying*: I’m just… feeling so hurt and shocked and I don’t know how to react and… are you climbing out the window?

Hylla *climbing out the window*: No!

They met and became instantly friends

Then when they trained Kinzie couldn't help but think about Hylla's long hair moving and her beatiful grin

She realizes she's bi thanks to Hylla actually

Hylla is a lesbian, she always knew she was, she always liked women and never felt attraction towards men

Hylla is very great at makeup because she learned form Circes and she does Kinzie's makeup

They also always borrow eachother's clothes, to the point where no one knows if that tank top or patns belong to Hylla or Kinzie

They don't care tho, they don't mind sharing

Long trainings but they end up making out

Kinzie always does Hylla's braid

And Hylla likes to brush Kinzie's hair

They both plan to get a matching tattoo

Kinzie calls Hylla "my queen" even after they start dating to make fun of her

Hylla replies with "yes, you plebeia?"

Will kill anyone who touches the other

Sometimes they just wear matching outfits : they don't do it on purpose

So you'll see Hylla with tank top, cargo pants, boots, black nails and makeup + rings and Kinzie just the same

Even if they always dress pretty in public, when they go in private they are fucking exhausted so they wear sweats, hoodie and no makeup

They love to cuddle together when no one sees them

And they make themselves a dinner

Or if they're too tired they jsut make some popcorn and cuddle

Back in battle, they love to make jokes like "oh you're so weak today babe? Just one five monsters at second?" "Shut the fuck up or I'm gonna kill you instead of them"
