What are your personal opinions of Kira?
I personally do NOT support Kira. To me it's not an issue of L vs Light or an issue of morality (are his actions right or wrong). It's an issue of he's irrelevant, ineffecient, not needed, redundant, and frankly stupid.
What he is doing is technically genocide. While he isn't killing based on race or ethnicity, he is committing mass murder of a, by definition, marginalized group of people (criminals + dissenters).
We already have a criminal justice system, therefore he is not doing anything that isn't already being done. Not to mention with the presence of the current criminal justice system, crime is still rampant because people don't think about the consequences of their actions til after the fact or they felt they were left with no other choice and consequences be damned. Realistically, he wouldn't reduce the crime rates, or if he did the percentage would be substantially low.
If he wanted to make a real change in the criminal justice system, why not pursue judges and juries who let the guilty walk free or persucute the innocent?
If he really wanted to make the world a safer and better place, why go for people who are already subjugated to the law instead of going after those who hurt millions everyday and are untouchable by the law?
He had every opportunity to truly change the world by going after corrupt people in positions of power and authority and he squandered it.
And we know for a fact he isn't parsing through information to confirm the accuracy of his victims. With the rate he kills, we know definitively that he is not investing any time at all into checking if the accused are ACTUALLY guilty. He's just hearing the verdict and taking the punishment upon himself. It is actually highly likely he has killed someone who killed out of self-defense because he's just blindly following the verdict. If the verdict rules it was self-defense, they're safe, but the nuance is that there's so many self-defense cases that get guilty verdicts.
And let's talk about the nuances of what self-defense means. Would he consider a woman who killed her abusive partner in his sleep to be guilty of murder because he didn't pose an ACTIVE threat despite posing an overall threat? Because the courts most definitely would convict her and he's just following whatever the verdict says. And if so, that would go against his own ideology because she just did exactly what he would do. But I'm sure he believes only he has the right to pass that sort of judgment.
So, in summary, I don't hate him because he's a murderer. I hate him because he is stupid.
