#JackedKirby - Go Go Gadget Eyes!!! 👀👀👀 The Machine Man character and series is one of Jack’s most underrated and overlooked projects upon his return to Marvel in 1975... the imagery is amazing and the storylines are fantastic. Some of Kirby’s best combination art/writing work that he has ever done (right up there with the Demon!). It’s beautiful... 👀👀👀 Take this awesome opening splash and follow up 2 panel space scape that open #Issue6 of the series (published September of 1978). The titular character, Machine Man, is using a never before seen power of telescoping eyes (Pic 1) to preview an incoming alien invasion from Outer Space!!! When we get to Pic 2 we see what Machine Man sees... a beautiful space scape with stars, planets and invading Autocron warships!!!! 👀👀👀 Gotta love the telescoping lens aspect of this pic... not an idea that was probably prevalent before ‘78, but the look certainly has the “night vision” goggles of modern warfare technology (think Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs). Add this to the list of many mechanical features Machine Man sports And we’re clearly copycatted by 80s cartoon sensation Inspector Gadget... #JackedKirby - The Imps From Pandora’s Box!!! 💥💥💥 As the company started to transition from anthology to super hero books with the success of the FF, there are a few instances where both were present in a single issue. Take Strange Tales #Issue109 from June of 1963. 💥💥💥 Release just a year and a half after FF #issue1 hit stands, this issue features our boy Johnny heading off on his own to get away from his teammates for some peace and quiet. Unfortunately he ends up wronging a local curmudgeon who also happens to posses Pandora’s Box... and the evil imps that reside inside it! 💥💥💥 The story is funny and not really all that believable as threatening to Johnny (it was plotted by Lee and written by Robert Bernstein) but it does feature some really dope creature designs from Jack. #JackedKirby - Skrull Squad... 🛸🛸🛸 The dreaded Skrulls are back at it, making life difficult for the FF as per usual!!! This insanely beautiful splash page comes from Fantastic Four #Issue89 which was published in August of 1969. Even though the main villain in the story is the Mole Man (aka @gary_esposito) the Skrulls are back on earth and they have one mission: secure a competitor for their Death Olympics... THE GREAT GAMES! 💥💥💥 This panel reintroduces the Skrull threat and to the FF world and. Sets up the next 4 issues... They choose The Thing as their competitor and kidnap him to fight Torgo and other gladiators in the Great Games. 💥💥💥 I always loved the goblin like appearance of the Skrulls, and this one is majestic and terrifying. I also love the tech reflection in his eyes and the gold chain.... so awesome. #JackedKirby - The Omega Effect!!! The Forever People May be the least talked about of Jack’s original 4th World contributions to DC... and it’s sad because I think it’s the book that features the most Darkseid of the bunch!!!! DC’s resident Big Bad appears in a ton of The Forever People stories, especially in the middle of the series. He is intrigued with the ragtag group of hippie dippie New Genesis residents and tasks Desaad with capturing them, which he of course botched...so Darkseid unleashed the OMEGA EFFECT to round them up!!! This splash comes from #Issue6 of the Forever People, published in January of 1972. Despite often being called Kirby’s worst inker, I thought Vince Colletta did an admirable job here.
