Ah, Kirlett, that’s actually a tough question ! x)

I do like Bae a lot. I feel sorry for what happened to him, because he was a loving kid who just wanted his dad. He sacrificed himself for the Darlings, he had a sense of honor and loyalty (and he was so cute)… Things that I don’t see in Neal.

I actually wrote a post about Nealfire in February, you can find it here. In this post I talk about the contrast between cowardice and bravery in Nealfire’s character. I think that, to some extent, what Neal did (abandoning Emma) can be considered as a sacrifice for his part. Leaving the people you love is a very hard thing to do, let’s not forget that. He loved Emma, deeply. I think he could’ve found another solution and stay with her, but he didn’t. Paradoxically, he chose the easy way while it was the hardest thing to do for him.

I don’t like Neal because of this part, the fact that he didn’t not try to find another way. I don’t like him because he broke Emma. I don’t like him because after a decade he’s still kind of patronizing her whereas she’s now a grown up, not a teenager. I don’t like him because if she hadn’t come to Manhattan, he wouldn’t have come to SB ! If he truly loved her, he would’ve come right after receiving August’s postcard. This would’ve made me like him more. But, once again, he did not. The thing I like in Neal ? His jokes and his sass. I don’t know, he made me laugh in Manhattan :)

But Bae and Neal are not fully two different people, they’re not split, just like Captain Hook is Killian Jones despite their obvious differences. What happened ? Bae grew up. That’s the main difference. The child VS the man. And, paradoxically, I think the child was a better person than the adult. He didn’t evolve, he backslided. But Bae is still there, deep down. And I think we saw him when he was sucked down into the portal. He sacrificed himself just like he did with the Darlings.

Nealfire is not a bad person. He made a huge mistake, but he’s far from being bad. He’s still loving, we see it when he’s with Henry. And he still cares about his dad. He went through a lot, and we still don’t know what happened to him in Neverland. I think he’s an interesting character. I don’t hate him at all, I just think that he’s not good for Emma and that they don’t belong together.
