For @soudevoted because of Sousuke’s birthday!!!!!
Sousuke hadn’t always taken this street to walk his little French bulldog. It was out of the way and left poor Cerberus dead tired by the time they had arrived back at his apartment. By happenstance he decided to take this way home once when it started raining one day. The normal route was flooded out by clogged drainage. Didn’t the city take care of those things?
It only added to Sousuke’s gloomy behavior, which meant it was a truly awful mood. Pulling up the sides of his collar himself and Cerberus trekked the long way home. But the long way wasn’t awful. Sometimes you have to stop and smell the flowers.
Or get hit in the face by a Bouquet.
“Did I hit you?! I’m so terribly sorry!” Came a voice as Sousuke was trying to get his wits about him. Getting smacked in the face by tulips wasn’t an everyday occurrence. Sousuke was about to snap at the florist to watch where the hell they were going. Clearly they had been in a rush since of the horrible weather. But the second his eyes caught a glance at the man toting the bundle his mouth fell slacked.
Rosen hair and violet eyes. He looked like a flower himself. Needless to say, Aphrodite must have been close by to torment his soul. “Um, it’s no big deal.” He finally spoke as the man had been trying to ensure that he hadn’t been injured. “At least it wasn’t roses, right?” A lopsided smile stretched on his face awkwardly like he wasn’t used to expressing one. A musical laugh came from the florist. “You’re right! Well if you ever want a Bouquet let me know.. I’ll give you a discount.” The man spoke before reaching down to pet Cerberus. He flashed Sousuke another dazzling smile and went back into the store. Persephone’s Petals.
Ever since that faithful day Cerberus’s little paws are sore from having to walk the extra few blocks to walk by the little floral shop. Most days Sousuke only caught a glimpse of fluffy pink hair bobbing around the small store. Funny enough, that was all he needed to send him deeper into the spell. Aphrodite had it out for him indeed.
One day Cerberus had had enough. No more could he stand the long walks that ended with him a panting mess. He literally couldn’t stand! This had to end. Once they had gotten close to the shop Cerberus took a seat. Sousuke had continued to look forward. Distracted by the large windows of Persephone’s petals. He was suddenly rugged back to find Cerberus stopped. “Come on boy..” He demanded as he didn’t want to be caught lingering outside of the store but the bulldog had other plans. He sat and yawned loudly forcing his weight down until he was laying on the cool cement. The stop even had a nice awning to which he could relax in the shade!
“Cerb, please..” Sousuke groaned by the pup refused to move as he stared at the shops door. Nervously Sousuke bit his bottom lip knowing that these few months he had enough courage to go pass the store but never enough to head inside. “I’ll be right back.” He assured the pooch and tied his leash up to one of the enormous flower pots outside. Cerberus looked happy enough to see his master head inside.
The bell rang out to announce his presence. He cringed as he wanted to take his time to approach the front desk. But the warm shade of pink that he found himself staring at day after day appeared from around the corner. “Welcome to-!” He began to greet Sousuke with a cheerful smile before he paused. “It’s you. I wondered when you would stop in.” A more reserved smile crossed the florist face. “Have you finally come to buy some flowers?” He seemed excited which only made Sousuke more nervous.
“Um, yes… I’ll…. I’ll take those.” Sousuke pointed to a bundle of star shaped red blossoms. But the florist frowned sadly, “are you sure?” He asked Sousuke looking unsure of his choice. “What’s wrong with them?” Sousuke questioned. The flowers were beautiful, he hadn’t seen the vine like flower before. The florist leaned against the counter. “Well,” he started sounding as if he was about to tell a story. “You see flowers have meanings. Most people don’t know it but if you’re giving these to someone you like or your mom I wouldn’t. I know it’s superstitious of me but these are Cypress flowers.” He paused and the meaning behind these flowers were unknown to Sousuke, was that a bad thing? He just stared blankly into the florist amethyst eyes. It was a good excuse.
“They symbolize mourning.” The florist went on to explain. “Oh!” Sousuke said a little embarrassed he had picked such a bad choice. His lack of flower knowledge clearly was on display. “It’s okay! That’s why I’m here. Let’s see. How about we figure out some happier flowers. It’s not for someone who’s mourning right?” He wanted to double check. Sousuke just nodded his head as he shifted his weight awkwardly. “Okay! Umm well, tell me what you want them to say..”
Sousuke stood there as his heart has never been so loud before. “…-wanted to say I like them.” He explained as a light coating of pink covered the apples of his cheeks. The florist smiled softly. “That’s sweet.” He agreed before going to work searching through the refrigerated sections. “Ah!” His voice came as he plucked out a bunch of red blossomed gladiolus. “These ones mean infatuation.” The florist smirked. Sousuke’s eyes widened slightly before agreeing they would be a good choice. “Umm what about those flowers, from that day.” He paused. The florist looked confused before he realized what Sousuke meant. “Oh the ones I hit you with? Those were tulips. Yellow ones mean they’re sunshine in your smile.” Sousuke couldn’t help but grin, “yes those would be perfect.” He agreed, the bright red matched with the yellow was nice. But as the florist began arranging the flowers before his eyes they were still missing something. “Hmm..”
His gaze wandered around the store until he spotted another flower that caught his eye. “What about this one?” He asked. The florists quick fingers placed another flower into the case as he looked in the direction Sousuke was speaking of. “Oh… Those are my favorite.” He confessed. A warmth in his chest spread picking the right choice, he didn’t even need to know what the flower meant.
The florist went over picking up a few of the white flowers and began to trim up the ends. “These flowers sometimes have a negative or a positive meaning. Sometimes they’re egotistical or they’re saying to stay sweet. I find them so beautiful. You made a good choice.” The florist hummed as he placed the finishing touches. “There..” He took a step back to admire his handy work.
The arrangement was beautiful. Really a work of art. The tall red flowers hung above the rest as the short yellow and white brought your eye down. It was perfect. “Who should I make the card out to?” The florist asked as he began to ring Sousuke up for the amount.
His mouth felt dry as it took a moment to even figure out the words to say. This is it. “They’re.. They’re for you.”
Silence. It might have been a second or two but the time the florist stared at him felt like a lifetime. Maybe he thought it was a joke. There was an urgency shooting through Sousuke to yell at him to turn around and flea with Cerberus at his heels. “Really?” Came his voice but it wasn’t upset. No, instead a warm smile still lingered on his lips as he tucked his head down. “Kisumi.”
What?
“Kiss me?!” Sousuke repeated as his cheeks were now red hot. That was a little forward! He had only given him flowers! “No, ha everyone thinks that. No that’s my name. Kisumi.” He said as he wrote out the card to show Sousuke. After the embarrassing miscommunication Sousuke sighed, “oh, sorry.” He couldn’t help but laugh slightly as the florist joined in. “It’s alright. Hey-wait a second.” He said before sneaking into the back.
Sousuke waited a moment wanting to leave even though things seemed to go pretty well. Kisumi came back with a small bouquet of flowers in his hands. They were all the same. Pink flower, curly edges with a light yellow center. They we’re beautiful. “These are on the house.” Kisumi said as he tilted his head to the side. “Have a good day..” He smiled gently as Sousuke took the flowers in his hands timidly waving goodbye. “Thank you.”
Cerberus wagged his tail once his owner appeared. Sousuke grinned down at his pup as the two continued the rest of their walk home. Hurrying inside he ran into his bedroom once he had taken Cerb’s harness off to research the flowers that had been given to him. The florist had even tucked the name of them inside the band which held them together. Ambrosia. It was a pretty name that suited the flowers. Nervously he typed their name into the search engine. Taking a deep breath he shut his eyes as his fingers pressed the enter key.
