— 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 𝐈𝐍 𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐃'𝐒 side ached . it was not the sharp stabbing of the blade that had pierced his side , but more of a dull , unyielding throbbing that kept immaculate time with his pulse . it pulsed , tender flesh pulled taut as rand stood and so , breathing in as deeply as he could bear , rand leaned against a nearby post , and set his totes of groceries upon the bench beside it . he still had a long ways to go before he could get back to eterna village . if it weren't for this flaming cold . . . rand thought , and then swallowed it whole . the cold certainly wasn't helping , but there was nothing to be done about the rise and fall of seasons . rand only hoped this winter did not last forever , as had the last winter across the westlands .
at any rate , rand was alone . which meant he could STOP , just for a moment , and try to wrangle breath back into his lungs despite the pain that accompanied it .
