For klancyann! I hope you get to start tomorrow and have a great time! :D I'll miss your lovely prompts!
Cullen had been thinking on it for a while now, but he’d finally made up his mind. He wanted to learn to speak Elven in an attempt to make Vada feel more at home. The problem was that there weren’t that many sources that could teach him aside from her and he wanted it to be a surprise. It was a long shot, but he knocked on Solas’s door, nervous.
Solas was surprised to see the commander at his door, and a bit annoyed at that.
“Can I help you?” he asked.
“I didn’t interrupt you, did I?” Cullen asked, suddenly worried that he was intruding.
“I was meditating, but no,” the elf replied with a sigh. Cullen nodded, running a hand along the back of his neck.
“I was wondering what you knew of the Elvish language. I know you aren’t Dalish but I wondered if you’d come across anything in your time in the Fade or in readings or-“
“You can stop rambling. I know some but not much. Why do you want to learn all of a sudden?” he asked suspiciously.
“I’d like to surprise Vada,” he admitted, smiling sheepishly. His smile only irritated Solas more but the hermit sighed and moved to let Cullen into the room. Cullen walked in, waiting patiently as Solas rifled through stacks of books. He finally handed him one.
“This can tell you as much as I know myself. Like I already said, it isn’t much, but it may be enough to peak her interest.”
Cullen grinned, thanking him and opening the book to start reading as he walked away. Solas watched him go with a frown, hoping it would be worth it.
Several days later he finally saw Cullen make his move. He had been farther down the hall when he heard Cullen greet the Inquisitor with an Elven greeting. Solas rolled his eyes, knowing he’d pronounced it wrong, but Vada grinned and laughed. Solas watched quietly as they talked and continued walking down the hall, feeling an ache in his chest. She was happy, he just wished he’d been the one to make her so.
DRAGON AGE FANFIC EXCHANGE
prompt by klancyann: Vada getting injured and Cullen freaking out about her being in pain and what not.
“What happened?” Cullen almost shouted, he didn’t realize, but his voice was far different from his usual tone.
“Vada got hit by a blood mage” Varric explained “Solas is in her tent healing her”
“I’m going there…”
“No, not yet!” Varric stopped him “Let him finish, it was bad, you bursting into there out of nothing could make her get an infection, or even taking Solas concentration off. Let him do his job”
And Cullen waited. When Solas finally came out it seemed like it had been 3 hours, but it was actually only 30 minutes. Cullen jumped, standing up.
“How is she?” the templar asked.
“She is recovering. It was a bad blow, it will take some time, but nothing you should worry about. I guess she will be in pain for a while though”
“Is there nothing else you can do?!”
Solas felt like telling Cullen to put his shit together, but he could understand, Cullen was worried and he couldn’t realize how rude he was right now.
“It’s blood magic, Cullen. It could be much worse, I’ve done what I could, but there isn’t much else. Go stay with her, she needs company”
The Templar entered the tent. Vada was laying on her bed, Cullen saw her naked back, the place that had got hit. There were bandages, but Cullen realized that the skin underneath them was red.
“Vada…” he called, sitting by her side. She didn’t move.
“Hey” the elf answered, her voice was low and she seemed tired “I can’t see you there, I can’t move much”
Cullen sat on the other side, in front of the elf. Her face seemed tired as well, the bed’s blanket was covering her chest.
“Is there anything I can do for you?” he asked.
“Just don’t leave”
“I’ll never leave you”
For klancyann! Let me know if you guys want to do prompts for next week or if these are the last ones |D WE'RE SO CLOSE!
Gwendolyn being authoritive over soldiers who don't believe in her, and Bull getting into it-like turned on, or happy for her.
“Scout the left flank and report back,” Gwendolyn commanded, looking over the war table as her commanders stood and waited. Harding made a face and hesitated, making Gwendolyn look up when there was no response.
“What?
“Well, ma’am, they would have been moving east. Wouldn’t it be best to scout the right flank?”
“We’re looking to see whether they’ve left yet. Scout the left,” she repeated, clearly annoyed. Harding nodded and left, though she clearly still didn’t agree.
Bull had been watching on from across the room, interested to see how Gwendolyn did at leading under pressure. Cullen had been barking orders earlier but she’d sent him away, seemingly wanting to take control. He hadn’t agreed with some of her orders, but understood what she was thinking anyhow.
“Ma’am, the right flank is under attack,” a messenger announced, running into the room. Gwendolyn groaned, trying to figure out what to do.
“Send a platoon of archers. That should keep them at bay,” Bull suggested. Gwendolyn nodded in agreement and the messenger ran off to relay the message.
“Why does everyone question everything I say?” Gwendolyn asked him. He shrugged, walking over to look at the arrangement of troops on the table.
“It could be because you’re a woman. It could be because you’ve never commanded soldiers. Either way, I think you’ve more than proven yourself. Just give them time to see that.”
She nodded slowly as Harding ran back into the room.
“You were right ma’am, not all of them had cleared out. We would have been under attack from both sides.”
“Good. Send another platoon of men.”
“Right away, ma’am,” the dwarf replied, running off again.
“See? Just keep following your instincts,” Bull told her, smiling.
“Well my instincts are telling me you should ready your Chargers and go kill some demons,” she told him, smiling back. He grinned and laughed.
“I’d say your instincts are spot on.”
DRAGON AGE FANFIC EXCHANGE
prompt by klancyann: Solas watching Vada working in the garden, and seeing her with Cullen. (Can be jealous, or like sad.)
Solas was watching her, again. Whenever she went to the garden, Solas would find a spot to watch without been noticed. He knew how weird it would look like if Vada realized he was watching her every now and then.
He knew exactly why he was doing it, it was the only way he could enjoy seeing her without the inquisitor noticing his presence. He didn’t want to bother her, he just wanted to be around.
While Vada was having fun with herself, someone else got near her.
Cullen.
The human sat by her side and Vada answered his question, smiling. Solas had no idea what they were talking about, but he didn’t have to. They were having those meetings for a while now, there was nothing physical so far – as far as Solas knew – and that’s why Solas couldn’t simply walk towards Vada.
Solas wasn’t stupid, he knew Vada felt something for the Templar and that the Templar felt something for the Inquisitor as well. It made him sad, he wanted to be the one with her there, but he also didn’t want to be a burden for any of them.
The elf sighed, he wished he had made a move sooner, maybe then she might look at him instead of Cullen, but now it was probably too late.
Solas walked away without being noticed.
For klancyann!
Gwendolyn painting and Bull watching her with fascination.
Bull had important news to pass on to the Inquisitor. Or at least he was convinced it was important. He’d spent the last ten or so minutes searching through the castle trying to find her, moving from wing to wing and room to room until he finally stumbled upon her.
She was standing on the balcony that jutted off from her room, facing away from him and clearly very focused. An easel stood in front of her and she seemed to be painting the view of the valley that was visible from her room. He crossed the room, forgetting his news as he came closer.
“I didn’t know you painted,” he told her, looking over the half painted canvas. It was clear she had been working on it for some time though she had a lot of work left to go until it was finished.
“Yep. I paint,” she said simply, trying not to let him break her concentration.
“Do you do it often?”
“Yes.”
He got quiet then, making himself comfortable on a nearby chair. He found himself entranced by her hand moving over the painting with different shades of green and blue. He couldn’t understand how she knew how to layer it or how to make it look right, but she was doing a wonderful job.
“Did you need something?” she asked after a few moments.
“There was news from the scouts, but it can wait. Do you mind if I stay and watch?”
She turned, surprised by his genuine interest, and smiled a bit.
“No,” she told him, turning back to her work.
DRAGON AGE FANFIC EXCHANGE
prompt by klancyann: Solas being protective of Vada in the field-she can be defensive or flattered. Either.
Solas entered Vada’s tent. They had set camp, since it was too late to keep moving forward.
“Cassandra said you wanted to talk to me” he said.
“Indeed” she answered, lifting her head to face him “Today in combat, you protected me. Why?”
“I don’t understand” he answered, keeping a low voice tone “We are supposed to watch each other’s back”
“Watch each other backs is one thing, literally streaking down my targets and taking any attack in my way is another”
He knew she wasn’t lying, he had indeed done all those things.
“Today was hard, Inquisitor, you are high priority, if you fall we can’t replace you”
“Or any of you”
“We don’t have a fade scar on our hands”
“Still” Vada kept a straight face “You shouldn’t, I’m a fighter, just as the rest of you, I can take care of myself” he saw a hesitant look in her eyes “But… Thank you”
Was she… Blushing? Even if just a little bit? Vada turned around, trying to hide it from Solas, but he had realized the red in her cheeks already.
“Okay, that’s it, long day tomorrow and we should both get some rest”
“Of course” he said, before leaving.
For klancyann! Sorry I'm late... again .w.
Lorelei having severe nightmares about her parent's death and Alistair comforting-angstangstangst
Darkness swirled around Lorelei as she ran through the halls of Highever. She could only see the path in front of her as she ran, trying desperately to stop what she knew was going to happen. Over and over she ran to save her family. Her sister-in-law and nephew were always dead from the start but maybe this time she could get to the kitchen fast enough to save her parents. Even in the dream she knew she wouldn't make it in time. She cried out in the dream, reaching for them as she slipped into the darkness to begin the run again.
“Darling, wake up,” Alistair's voice came softly. She could feel him shaking her shoulder as she woke with a start. Sweat ran down her face and covered her body.
“I couldn't save them. I couldn't save any of them,” she gasped as she sat up, pulling her hair away from her face. Alistair sat up with her, pulling her to his chest.
“I know,” he comforted, rubbing her back in slow circles to try to calm her. She cried silently, the image of losing her parents playing in her mind again.
“You did all you could, Lorelei,” he reminded her, “If you had stayed you would have died alongside them.”
“But I should have saved them!” she sobbed, holding tightly to him. If she couldn't save her own parents how could she ever defeat this blight?
“You couldn't. Just like I couldn't save Duncan,” he pressed, voice faltering at the end. She tried to slow her breathing, knowing he was right.
“I miss them so much.”
“You'll find them again one day. And we will find your brother at the end of all of this. If we can stop this Blight then everyone in Ferelden will owe you. We'll find a way to send scouting parties into the wilds.”
Lorelei shivered as a cold wind blew against their tent and through the thin cloth. She pulled away, wiping her face of the tears and sweat.
“Why don't you lie down with me? We'll keep each other warm. And I'll keep your nightmares away,” he told her, smiling. She returned the smile and kissed him before lying down with him and cuddling close.
“I didn't know Templars could walk in dreams.”
“I'd go anywhere to protect you,” he told her, kissing her forehead one last time before closing his eyes. She closed hers as well, feeling safe and protected.
