📰 -- talk about an important event in your world’s political history. what happened and what was its significance? is there an official version of the story, and who disputes that version? how does it fit into the broader history of the world?

general liu crecst’s rise to power is incredibly important to not only the ki’ran empire, but all of the countries bordering the crecst sea.  crecst’s election to the ki’ran triumvirate marked the beginning of their conquest of the east as well as the imbalance in the ki’ran government.  cresct is responsible for radicalizing the majority of the ki’ran citizens under the promise that world peace would be achievable if ki’ra took out any countries that disputed them.  ki’ra became dependent on their military and thus began 200 plus years of imperialism.

cresct is basically a god in the eyes of loyal ki’ran citizens, but the rest of the world views him as the catalyst of worldwide oppression and unrest.

👔 — talk about political leaders in your world. are they elected, chosen, born? what do they do to keep their power and maintain order (or do they)?

the ki’ran empire is lead by a triumvirate, and each of the three leaders represents an aspect of their country: military, economy, and justice.  the leaders are elected by the people, but the election process is corrupt, so that doesn’t mean a whole lot.  the military branch holds the most power, which means they have great influence over the elections.  overall, the triumvirate, despite how messy it is behind closed doors, has a tight grasp over the empire and its people.

💎 — talk about social classes in your world. can people move from one class to another, or are they permanent, like castes? how do people from different classes interact? how do they tell each other apart?

in theory, if someone works hard enough, they can move up the social ladder.  the ki’ran empire boasts equal opportunity to those who abide by their laws.  in reality, though, if you’re not connected to the military or stupid rich, there’s a good chance you’re gonna get walked on by the upper classes & it’s very hard to move up.  the classes live in different areas, mainly due to money, so the physical separation heavily influences the societal separation as well.

📸 — what is the press/the media like in your world? is it free or government-controlled? do people consume the news every day? 

say it with me kids: imperialist propaganda!!! the ki’ran empire makes it hard to gain news from media not based in the empire.  they don’t censor it, per say, but they work to drown out outside information with inside propaganda.  its encouraged to stay up to date with the news, but only if its Ki’ran Approved NewsTM

🥖 — have there been any significant revolutions or revolutionary movements in your world? why did they come about? did they succeed in their aims?

other than the revolution that’s brewing during canon, there have been a few attempts to previously overthrow the ki’ran empire! the eastern countries ki’ra took over initially cooperated, but when ki’ra grew hostile, they knew things needed to change. several attempts were made in various countries to stop the empire, but they were too disorganized and weak to make much of a difference

📚 — what kinds of research are you doing for the purposes of sociopolitical worldbuilding? do you have any real-world models or inspirations?

when i first started planning kman, i spent three days in a wikipedia deep dive on different government philosophies/systems & while it was painful, it was also very interesting!! i exposed myself to new philosophies that i hadn’t heard of before.

but what i rlly want to talk about are the real world cultures that inspired the kman universe so here you go:

balu — polynesian and native american cultures

ki’ra — mix of 1800s britain & russia as well as korea

macruvia — eastern/balkan european influence (specifically the czech republic & macedonia)

xhios - a blend of ancient & modern china

neo shem - middle east, mainly pakistan

gurren - mix of central africa & northeastern europ (specifially chad & estonia)

👔  — talk about political leaders in your world. are they elected, chosen, born? what do they do to keep their power and maintain order (or do they)?

balu is a young presidential democracy, so the citizens vote in their president every five years.  while the president has full authority once in office, they often let the people vote on political decisions; this way they stay favorable with their citizens and maintain power.  the current president of balu is the youngest the country has seen.  he was elected under the pretense of progress for the nation, but his nativity has led to loosened control on the government and corruption among his advisers.
