Basically, my first thought was that someone would see the original graphic as a game of BINGO, but then told myself I was reading too much into it. It was a list of meaningful actions put into a grid. Nope! WRONG! Becoming an #ally doesn’t get you an award or a prize. It just makes you a less shitty human being. That's what sparked this discussion, in the first place. The irony hurts. . When I created the previous image, I did not recognize the game-like quality to it. Despite sending it to many friends, it was never mentioned nor seen. . If you are using the knitharder hashtag, keep in mind that this is NOT a checklist or a game. . Actionable tasks are easy to do, but they are not the same as inclusion. Think about the prompts as a starting point and the deeper reasoning on why this is important. . People do amazing work. Do you love this work and want to support it/make it, or are you buying it because it lets you feel more at ease that you're supporting a POC? . I am so sorry for the optical allyship. . Nobody is a trophy. Nobody is a check mark. Nobody deserves to feel like that. . Being a POC does not give me an easy out. I, too, downloaded @laylafsaad 's fantastic workbook and am reading and working through it. Obviously, I had not gotten to optical allyship, yet. Otherwise, I would have seen how my last post’s graphic screams of it. . I want to reiterate that #knitharder is a starting point, and the prompts a spark to keep doing the work. It is also supposed to help algorithms, as every click, like, and comment helps visibility. . I am going to continue to #knitharder . It is a reminder that "I see you" and that representation matters; sharing projects is visibility. . However, I have decided to remove the grid.
