To start off, I just took photos of traditional kitchen knives in front of plain background, to suggest they could be used for anything. In the second set of photos, it's obvious a knife was used as a murder weapon. I created a crime scene in my bathroom by splattering red food colouring all over it and photographed the knife within it. I knew I wanted to feature the knife as a beauty object, but I wasn't sure how until I did some research and found an editorial from Vogue Paris, showing Gemma Ward using scissors to do things like cut her hair, eyelashes and nails. The photos turned out really well, bearing a hint of surrealism.
