Woo. Finished Luana Vecchio's Lovesick. Intense snuff & unreliable narration. I love villain protagonists.
I bought the omnibus of volumes 1-7 off Amazon.
It's very clear to me this comes in two parts; the protagonist's part (first part, very August Underground but BDSM chicks) & then her situationship with the antagonist (second part, very much 100 Days of Sodom.) Both are pretty enjoyable in terms of writing, plausibility, etc, but they have moderately different atmospheres.
As enjoyable as the plot was, my favorite part definitely had to be the eroguro elements. Obviously, this isn't intended to BE fetish pornography, but the gore is inherently erotic simply due to the theme, & the confliction of feelings is pretty spectacular.
The artwork alone is a treat. The Kindle version I bought has a collection of artwork & alternative issue covers. There's a LOT to like about the various artpieces & the teaser featured at the end.
Doll Parts is Lovesick's prequel. Again, I bought the omnibus for Kindle. I would argue it's far more depraved than its predecessor, exploring the protagonist's encounters with pedophilia & violence crafting her into the monster we know & love.
The omnibus includes issue covers & some magnificent spreads. Cioffi's alternate covers are ethereal but I definitely prefer the pair of 2 page spreads drawn by Vecchio at the end of the omnibus.
Doll Parts was a cathartic experience for me. I, too, react to gendered violence poorly & violently. It was a treat to see the protagonist's slow descent into what she becomes in Lovesick.
