Laborious work on the waterfall. Three days. Last day constructing a cage to ensure the integrity of the seals at the junction of pvc and trough. I actually think it will hold true!

Koi Pond is up and filtrating since yesterday. Cleared a bunch of algae from the filter in the first 24 hrs. Big difference already in clarity. 10% water change as well. Still tons of growth that needs to be consumed once the water temperature allows the introduction of additional herbivores like Bushnose Plecostomus and various snails...

The Misadventures of Amelia

As soon as this Northeastern weather got warm enough, it was time to play “Find the Hole in the Waterfall!”

So I removed the lining that had been covering the inside of the walls and found the hole that had been draining my pond.

I decided to put PondGuy epoxy all over the areas, between the linings and the c-blocks and re-line the interior with a 4” wide x 6’ stretch of Liner patch.

Once that was done, the weather decided to whip up 4 tornadoes in Connecticut, so I needed to put my long section of granite back in place, caulk all three holes, screw in the massive bolts and wedge a supporting stone under the granite slab until the caulking set.

I also, for good measure, caulked all around the granite. Top, sides and bottom. Man, I was proud of the job I had done.

When the caulking had set, I remove the supporting stone and filled up the pond just past the bolts to look for leaks. None! 😎 So I restarted the waterfall with just one 1250 gph pump. Held beautifully. So I started the second one. Again, hours later, it was holding perfectly.

So I took a nap.

An hour and a half later I returned to Amelia to find SHE WAS LEAKING AGAIN!!! 😢 Frustrated, I looked intensely at the entire length of the falls and found (yep! you guessed it), a rise in the liner patch near the end of the trough. Luckily, I hadn’t used up all my caulking.

So, this morning, I dipped back into Amelia and slathered the last of my caulking at the rise and everywhere else I could find to fill any possible invisible gaps there might be.

With any luck, by tomorrow, the waterfall will be active once again!!!

Working on the #Koi Pond. Tomorrow, Amelia goes green. She’s got new hoses all around, new gaskets and new air stones. The new stones keep the koi food contained in the shallow water. Water temperature is about 60 degrees F. Can’t wait until it’s warm enough to add my pleco’s!!!
